UFC 150 Results: Benson Henderson Defeats Frankie Edgar
In a rematch of one of the most exciting matches of the year thus far, Benson Henderson was able to retain the UFC lightweight championship at UFC 150 by defeating Frankie Edgar.
Henderson has hit his stride once again after that memorable loss to Anthony Pettis in the final WEC event in 2010. With this victory, he extended his winning streak to five and UFC record to 5-0.
The lightweight division is in a very unique position right now. Henderson is clearly the best in show. Edgar was the consensus No. 2 fighter, though two straight losses, even if they are against the champion, will knock him down a few pegs.
The next one in line could be Gray Maynard, who took down, in a manner of speaking, fan-favorite Clay Guida in his most recent fight.
But the stud most likely to get the next shot would seem to be Nate Diaz. The younger Diaz brother has found a niche for himself since moving back down to the lightweight division following a loss to Rory MacDonald at UFC 129.
Diaz has won three consecutive fights, two of them via submission. He was the first man to ever stop Jim Miller in a fight, and he did it at a UFC on Fox show. That kind of performance had to make an impression on management.
Henderson will have plenty of time to think about who he will defend the title against next. For now, he can lay claim to being the best lightweight in UFC. Now if only Gilbert Melendez could find a way out of Strikeforce, then we could determine who the best lightweight in the world is.
