Mike HoagJun 7, 2018

Gabby Douglas’ disappointing last-place finish headlined a day filled with a lot of exciting gymnastics action.

Read on to find out all the exciting results from Day 8 of the men’s and women’s gymnastics competition.

Women’s Uneven Bars

The women’s uneven bars saw the USA’s Gabby Douglas make her first mistake. It may not have mattered, though, as Russian Aliya Mustafina rectified her earlier mistakes in the Games and put on a show in this one.

He Kexin, a gymnast from China’s 2008 gold-medal team, finished with a silver medal after a valiant effort.

The bronze medal went to Beth Tweddle, the best of the female gymnasts from Great Britain, winning her first medal in the event.

Men’s Rings

The men’s still rings competition offered no qualifying Americans but delivered plenty of excitement and drama.

Defending gold medalist Chen Yibing of China was upset by Brazil’s Arthur Nabarrete Zanetti. Chen had the gold medal locked up until Nabarrete Zanetti’s final performance. His performance is the lone bright spot for an otherwise underachieving Brazil gymnastics team.

He finished with silver and was followed by Italy’s Matteo Morandi who finished with the bronze medal.

Men's Vault

Yang Hak-seon, the reigning world champion in men’s vault, now has a gold medal to add to his list of accomplishments.

Sam Mikulak, America’s only hope in today’s men’s gymnastics finals, failed to place for a medal, coming in fifth.

Russia’s Denis Ablyazin added a silver medal to his personal total by finishing second place. Ablyazin also came in third in the men’s floor competition over the weekend.
