Little League Regionals 2012 Scores: Latest Results, Highlights and Recap
There are other sports happening right now—besides the Olympics—featuring America's youth. The Little League World Series brings the world's best little league baseball players together to decide which region is the best.
I've loved this competition ever since I was young enough to play in it.
It usually offers some very memorable moments and performances. This year's version got underway stateside on Friday, and the action continued Saturday.
When play finishes, the United States will have the team in place that will represent the country against the best in the other participating parts of the world.
The United States little leaguers are separated into eight geographic groupings by region. The following slides show the results of the regional games.
Check back here to follow the latest action in each region.
West Regional
1 of 8West Regional Champions: Northern California
Updated by Michael Moraitis -- August 11
Northern California is the West Regional champions after defeating Hawaii, 7-5.
After two innings, Hawaii staked a 4-3 lead over Northern California and held it until the bottom of the fourth when Northern California scored four runs and took the lead.
Hawaii would threaten in the sixth inning, but Northern California was able to hold them off long enough to maintain their lead and win the game.

Hawaii got out to an early lead and never fully relinquished it. Big-hitter Earl Keamo-Young got things started right for Hawaii with a grand slam that put the Hawaiians up big early.
There was drama late in the sixth inning as Arizona staged an epic comeback with their bats, but it ended up being too little, too late as an epic play at the plate assured the Hawaiians victory.
California is the region's top seed, and they did little to disparage that after winning convincingly in the second West semifinal, beating Nevada 10-2.
California went on top early with a big second inning and raced out to a 10-0 lead in the top-half of the fourth. The game was in danger of ending by a mercy rule before Nevada got on the board, but they never truly threatened the Californians' big lead.
Hawaii and California will now face off in the West final. Teams representing the region have fared well in Williamsport, winning three of the last four world championships.

Northwest Regional
2 of 8Northwest Regional Champion: Oregon
Updated by Michael Moraitis -- August 11
Oregon jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first thanks to walks, passed balls, wild pitches and a timely hit by their center fielder, Greg Mehlhaff.
Idaho would quickly answer back the next inning with one run of their own, cutting the deficit to two.
But Oregon didn't stop the scoring and would tack on three more runs in the second inning, grabbing a 6-1 lead that Idaho would never recover from.
A late surge from Idaho wasn't enough and Oregon took the Northwest Regional final by a score of 8-4.

At this pace, you may hear Bryce Swofford's name in the major leagues. The 13-year-old was ridiculous on Friday for Alaska's Gastineau Channel.
Not only did he go 3.1 innings, allowing no runs and striking out six; he was also 3-for-3 with five RBI in Gastineau's 12-0 rout of Wyoming's Cody.
Things will be tougher for the kids from Alaska on Saturday against Post Falls of Idaho who also put up 12 runs in a game on Friday.
Can Swofford and the crew produce again?

How good is South Lake Charles of Louisiana? Through two games they have outscored their opponents 25-0.
Nate Briscoe has been amazing. He's a combined 3-for-3 with five runs scored and an unreal nine RBI. With two shutouts, it's obvious the pitching has been amazing as well.
They may be playing Kanye West and Jay-Z's "Who Gon Stop Me?" on the team bus. Then again, maybe not, but you get the point.

Updated by Steven Cook -- August 10
The Little League World Series has its cinderella story. For the first time in 25 years, Tennessee is heading to Williamsport.
The underdogs from Goodlettsville, Tenn., found themselves with an early lead behind strong pitching. Brock Myers was stellar on the mound with a no-hitter through five innings and nine strikeouts for Tennessee. They took advantage of having more quality pitchers available due to pitch count requirements.
They defeated Warner Robins from Georgia, 1-0 to make it to the final 16.

Fairfield American showed great versatility through two games. They won a nail-biter 1-0 on Friday and on Saturday they destroyed South Burlington of Vermont 17-1.
Matt Kubel bounced back from an 0-for-3 game with three strikeouts to pitch two solid innings in Saturday's rout. He also homered.

Updated by Steven Cook --- August 10
In Friday's opening game and the first of two Mid-Atlantic semifinals, New Jersey topped Pennsylvania, 9-4. The Parsippany, New Jersey team raced out to an early lead behind power hitter Anthony Scannelli and never looked back.
In the other semifinal, Delaware shut down Maryland with stellar pitching as Joe Silan and Drew Emory combined on a no-hitter. Delaware went on to win convincingly after a six-hour rain delay, 6-0.
The victors Delaware and New Jersey will face off Sunday in an all-important final that sends the winners to the Little League World Series and the losers back to school.

Midwest Regional
7 of 8Midwest Regional Champion: Nebraska
Updated by Michael Moraitis -- August 11
Nebraska's bats have been quite impressive throughout regional play and they were on full display against N/S Dakota.
A four-hit, four-run first inning set the tone for Nebraska, but not even that lead was safe.
The game became very interesting after the first inning explosion by Nebraska as N/S Dakota would answer back with three runs of their own in the second inning.
The top of the third inning saw N/S Dakota tie it up, but Nebraska came right back with two runs of their own. The fifth inning sealed the deal as Nebraska tacked on four more runs, ultimately topping N/S Dakota, 10-4.
-----End of Update-----
The Midwest Regional didn't start play until Saturday, but Kearney and Robbinsdale of Nebraska and Minnesota respectively, scored enough runs in their one game to make up for the inactivity.
They emerged from Saturday's games looking like the two best teams of the region.
We'll see what happens on Sunday when they play for the second time.

8 of 8Great Lakes Champion: Indiana
Updated by Steven Cook -- August 10
Kentucky looked set to punch their ticket to the Little League World Series as they held onto a slim lead late, that is until Indiana's Hunter McCubbins went deep with a solo shot to tie it up at 5-5. McCubbins later had an enviable chance to knock in the game-winning run late in the 6th with the bases loaded, but struck out.
However, the next batter up was Mason Gillis, who knocked in a walk-off single to send his New Castle, Indiana team to the Little League World Series by the score of 6-5.
