Madden 13: Connected Careers and More Exciting Features

Brian MaziqueAug 2, 2012

Connected Careers is the biggest of the new features that have me excited about Madden 13. The mode is a mixture of the Be a Superstar, traditional Franchise and Coach modes.

It allows gamers to control all 32 teams in several different roles, and what is even more exciting is that it has online functionality.

For example, I could play as Matt Forte for the Chicago Bears with the CPU or other online players controlling the other key positions on the team. My team and I could compete in up to 30 NFL seasons with retirements, injuries, free agency, drafts, etc.

Our competition would be any combination of CPU opponents or other gamers online who choose to play as a single player, team or simply the coach that calls the plays.

That is awesome, and if it's executed properly, it'll be the future of the franchise mode in sports video games.

Here are two other features that have me stoked.

NFL Legends

Madden has had legends before, but this is the first time they've ever been integrated into the game so well.

Their renderings are authentic, and they can even appear in your Connected Career modes as your experience progresses.

Take a look at these shots of Reggie White, Mean Joe Greene, Barry Sanders and Jerry Rice.

The details are in place, even down to the era-specific equipment. If you're going to include legends, this is how you do it.

Kinect Integration

Generally I'm not a motion-sensored gamer, but the Kinect Integration for Madden 13 is strictly about voice.

It allows you to call plays, audibles, hot routes and to cover specific players on defense. It appears to really engross you in the game experience.

As always, these types of alternatives won't be for everyone, but for some, it could be the thing that convinces them to play. Check out this video Walkthrough:

I've already thought about a way to play co-op with the Kinect. Imagine your buddy is the coach and calls the plays, and you're the player.

Allow him to call out all of the plays and adjustments while you execute them. It would almost be like having the radio communication in a players' helmet.

That could be fun, and most importantly, it can be related to the real game of football.

I don't know about you, but I'm excited. The game releases on August 28 for Xbox360, and it will also available for PS3 and Nintendo Wii U.
