Raw Set Fire and 5 Other Technical Issues at Live Events
For those of you that missed it, the WWE Raw set caught fire moments prior to the live show.
WWE.com released the following statement regarding the incident:
"During rehearsal for tonight’s Monday Night Raw at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, there was a minor incident involving the show’s pyrotechnics. As a precaution, the limited number of people in the building during the incident were successfully evacuated, and the fire marshal has given a safety clearance for the show to proceed as scheduled at 8/7pm CT (WATCH: THE CROWD FILES IN). There were no injuries.
"
Keep in mind, this is not the first time that they have experienced technical difficulties at a live event. Some of these issues were tragic, while others outright ridiculous.
Either way, these problems brought a sense of reality to the otherwise scripted show.
In the end, I am sure there were more incidents other than the five I am about to list.
With that said, if there is something I missed feel free to mention it in the comments section.
Undertaker Catches Fire
1 of 5The year was 2010, and the WWE was in the midst of their annual Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.
Then, just like that, it's main event time!
The lights go out, Undertaker's music and pyro hits and it's time to settle in for the slow, melodic entrance.
However, this time something was different, as 'Taker got stuck in the midst of his own pyro and was burned. Keep in mind, had he not been wearing his leather jacket, things could have been much worse.
And, even thought "The Dead Man" was technically protected from direct contact with the flames, he still felt some adverse affects, as many WWE employees were dowsing him throughout the match to help the healing process.
Several Injured During Pyro Show at WrestleMania 24
2 of 5Sadly, the Undertaker's name was involved in this one as well.
Just as "The Dead Man" pinned Edge to win the World Title, a fireworks extravaganza kicked off.
Unfortunately, it went awry and 45 people wound up injured.
The Promo No One Heard
3 of 5R-Truth's character was picking up steam, and he was ready to take his character to another level.
This promo was set to kickstart Monday Night Raw, but sadly the Truth did not set us free.
Ultimately, there is no do over for live TV and the show continued as if nothing happened.
SummerSlam Sign Falls
4 of 5Rick Rude and Bobby Heenan were in the back awaiting an interview with "Mean" Gene Okerlund.
Then, just as Tony Schiavone tossed it over to Okerlund, the SummerSlam sign fell off of its mount.
This startled the legendary interviewer, causing him to curse, which abruptly ended the interview.
Owen Hart's Death
5 of 5As we all know, Owen Hart was revisiting an old gimmick that he portrayed early in his career.
On this night, he was slated to come "flying" down to the ring as his alter ego, a superhero persona known as The Blue Blazer.
Sadly, he was not harnessed properly and fell to his death. In the end, the WWE decided to continue on with the show.
This move was questioned by fans and stars alike.
Not only was this failed stunt shocking to see, but the wrestlers following this incident had to battle it out in the same ring as their fallen comrade.
