Aly Raisman's Parents Steal the Show As Daughter Competes in Olympic Games
Aly Raisman's parents stole the show at the 2012 London Olympics this weekend, cheering her on as if they were being judged as well.
Watch below as Lynn and Rick Raisman squirm in their seats as if they are in search of a nearby restroom.
It's as if Raisman's mother is controlling her every move telepathically from her seat. The whispered compliments and shouted commands are capped off by claps and a relief-filled yell from dad.
Their cheering and support paid off, as their 18-year-old daughter pulled off one of the early shockers in London, qualifying for the individual all-around final.
Raisman knocked out American teammate, defending world champion and heavy favorite Jordyn Wieber from the competition, joining Gabby Douglas as the two American females who will represent the Stars and Stripes individually this summer.
Raisman was all class following her impressive achievement and certainly made her quirky parents proud. Via ESPN.com, she said:
""I was really surprised, and I feel awful because she wanted it so bad, but she should still feel proud because she's an Olympian. We have to stay calm and focused on team finals."
"
Raisman, a native of Massachusetts, is quickly becoming a star this summer. Her strength and consistency on every apparatus has paid off already, and her parents have given her an added character dimension.
Raisman won team gold with the U.S. women at the 2011 World Championships in Tokyo and will be key for them winning Olympic gold in London.
As long as Raisman's parents keep up the enthusiasm and support from the stands, the young Olympian will have all the encouragement she needs to accomplish history this summer.
At this point, it seems that a team and individual medal are the only things capable of stealing her parents' thunder.
