Olympic Swimming TV Schedule 2012: When and Where to Watch Day 4 Finals

Tim DanielsJun 7, 2018

The best word to describe the first couple days of competition in the pool would be unpredictable. That's what makes the Olympics special, though. Without the drama and suspense, the Games wouldn't be nearly as exciting every four years.

There are four more swimming finals slated for Tuesday, which is officially Day 4 of the 2012 Olympics. Based on all of the competition so far, it should be another interesting day as swimmers from around the globe chase their goal-medal dreams.

Here's a look at all the key viewing information for the action along with a preview of each final.

When: Tuesday, July 31

Where: London Aquatics Centre in London, England

Watch: NBC (Tape delay)

Live Stream: NBC Live Extra

Women's 200-meter Freestyle (2:41 p.m. ET)

The United States has a terrific opportunity to add a couple medals to its haul in this event. Both Allison Schmitt and Missy Franklin are strong contenders to reach the podium. The dynamic duo will likely be rivals in this event for many years to come.

They are far from medal locks, however. Based on qualifying times, it should be one of the closest races during the entire swimming schedule. Federica Pellegrini and Camille Muffat are among the other medal threats. It will all come down to who handles the pressure best.

Men's 200-meter Butterfly (2:49 p.m. ET)

Michael Phelps still hasn't found the top form that allowed him to crush the competition in Beijing four years ago. If there was ever an event which could get him back on track, it would be the 200-meter butterfly, a race he has consistently dominated.

He faces plenty of competition from Takeshi Matsuda and fellow American Tyler Clary. Ultimately, it will serve as a measuring stick race for Phelps. If he doesn't take home gold here, it's a clear sign his days at the top are nearing an end.

Women's 200-meter IM (3:43 p.m. ET)

American Ariana Kukors holds the world record in this event but faces some stiff competition in order to take home gold. That includes Arizona native Caitlin Leverenz, who looked very strong in her qualifying race.

A couple other names to watch out for are Ye Shiwen of China and Stephanie Rice of Australia. Rice set an Olympic record in the 200-meter individual medley four years ago, and Shiwen has quickly established herself at one of the sport's rising stars.

Men's 4x200-meter Freestyle (3:51 p.m. ET)

An United States team was upset in the 100-meter version of this event a few days ago when superstar Ryan Lochte was chased down by France's Yannick Agnel on the final leg. The country will look for some redemption on Tuesday by winning gold.

Along with the Americans, the usual suspects are expected to work their way into contention. It's a group that includes France and Australia. The relays always seem to have more twists and turns than individual races, making this a can't-miss race.
