USA Earns Silver, Will Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte Win Gold in Next Race?
After a devastating loss to American teammate and rival Ryan Lochte on Saturday, Michael Phelps was back in the pool again, this time in the 4x100-freestyle relay.
And, as a last-second surprise, Lochte was added to the U.S. team to serve as anchor.
Phelps' finish of more than four seconds behind Lochte in the 400 individual medley the day before left many wondering if (arguably) the greatest Olympian of all time had lost his form for good.
Though the team didn't earn gold in Sunday's relay, Phelps' second leg was strong. Now, Phelps focuses his efforts on the 200-meter butterfly, which he won in both the 2004 and 2008 Olympics and for which he holds the world record at 1:51.51.
Lochte must now quickly look to the 200 freestyle event taking place on Monday. How will they fare in their next race? Two-time Olympic medalist Mel Stewart has the answers.
