Olympic Volleyball 2012: Recapping Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh's Day 1 Win
Some might think that the hardest ticket to get at the 2012 Olympics is any Team USA basketball game. But in reality, it's any beach volleyball game, according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.
Outside of the obvious reasons for that, the team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh are a large reason for the sellout crowds at Horse Guards Parade.
In typical Olympic fashion, the American team defeated Australians Nat Cook and Tamsin Hinchley by a score of 21-18, 21-19. That Day 2 victory put the dynamic American duo's Olympic record at a staggering 15-0. Oh, and they did so without dropping a set to Cook and Hinchley.
That doesn't mean May-Treanor and Walsh are completely happy with their victory, however.
"I think Belgium once had a game point. And these girls had 19. We want to keep teams under 18," Walsh told Isola.
An interesting challenge for the two-time defending Olympic champions, as well as the rest of the field, is the weather and the timing of some of the matches.
Due to May-Treanor and Walsh's popularity, NBC obviously wants to show their games live on television. That means that all of the duo's matches will take place at 11:00 p.m. London time, where the weather is down to some chilly temperatures.
Walsh told ESPN that the timing of the matches got to her at first, stating, "I was worried. At home, it hits 11 and I'm a zombie. But we could play at 4 in the morning, we don't care."
The temperatures won't likely get any better for Walsh and her partner, so they'll have to adapt to that factor the way they have been with the timing of their matches.
Walsh and May-Treanor will look to keep their undefeated streak at the Olympics alive on their way to yet another gold medal in London.
