Dear David Stern, Something Has To Be Done
Dear Mr. Stern,
As I sat on my couch watching the Lakers vs. Hornets. I was stunned with how the referees let the game get out of hand.
Every time the whistle blew the player or players involved turned to the ref with disgust. Not one player accepted the call and just played. The more I watched the worse it got.
I was not the only one who noticed. The announcers calling the game made reference to it on almost every trip down the floor. The players are out of control and it's getting to the point where it is sickening to watch.
Along with arguing is the fact that big-time players (i.e Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, etc.) get any call that they want, even calls that are so ridiculous that everyone just expects them to be fouled everytime they have the ball.
If some one with out the name does the exact same play no call is made.
Refs are supposed to be unbiased and call the game fair. That just does not happen in today's NBA.
Tim Donaghy had made reference to refs being told to call games certain ways, and as awful as what he did was, he may have a point.
The more I watch, the more things become obvious to me.
The NBA is a business, and as a business, your main objective is to make money. Therefore, they want big market teams such as L.A. and Boston to win and be on the front page every chance the get.
Throw in Lebron James and Dwight Howard, who just may be the most marketable players of this generation, and it's no secret that the league wants them to succeed.
Refs have too much control of the game and not enough control of the players.
The NBA is losing money. Part of it is the economy, but the other part is how the game is played today.
It has become a joke to watch and it may be too far gone to repair.
In high school, you are taught to just play and accept calls that are made. College is the same.
The NBA is a whole different story.
Every time a call is made, someone opens their mouth and talks, and it affects the game. They are so focused on getting their opinion out to the refs, that for the next couple of series, they are completely taken out of their game.
Any player—it doesn't matter who—should be given a technical for making any motion or opening their mouth to a ref.
Enough is enough. The NBA needs drastic changes, and fast. Otherwise, fans will continue to be turned off to the game.
