Olympics 2012 TV Schedule: Top 3 Events to Watch on Day 3 of Summer Games

Alex HallJun 7, 2018

The London Games have already seen some thrilling athletic spectacles early on, with more sure to be worthy of that description on Day 3. Here are three events that you should be tuning into on Sunday.

USA vs. France (Basketball)

Team USA enters its first Olympic matchup against France after running the table in its exhibition games. That won't intimidate the French side however, because it has the second-most NBA players in the Olympics, with Tony Parker leading the team.

The 2011 FIBA European tournament runner-ups will take on a star-studded USA team led by LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant.

While the United States have the more memorable names on its side, the team itself has seen close calls in exhibitions against Brazil and Argentina. A talented French side could capitalize on the hoopla being made over those near-losses and stun the Americans.

Regardless of which side you'll be rooting for, it's entertaining to watch the All-Stars from each nation battle for pride and Olympic gold.

Men's 4x100 Freestyle Final (Swimming)

The biggest events on the docket for Day 3 come from the pool with the men's 4x100 freestyle gold medal being the biggest up for grabs.

Team USA will be hoping to relive its 2008 heroics when Jason Lezak stole first place with just 50 meters to go. The U.S. will not enter as the favorites this year however, with that honor being placed on Australia or France based on who you ask.

James "The Missile" Magnussen is Australia's biggest weapon in this race, and will need to continue living up to his nickname if they wish to live up to high expectations in London.

The event is obviously a team effort, which means that the team with the best chance to win is whichever one can work together the most cohesively once the event is underway. This event will surely be one of the most talked about on the Olympic post-game shows come Sunday night.

Women's 400 Freestyle Final (Swimming)

The women's 400-meter freestyle medals will also be decided Sunday, with Great Britain hoping its 2008 champion in this event can repeat on her home turf.

Rebecca Adlington is ranked second in the world at this event and at just 23 years of age, she has every reason to believe she can defend her gold medal.

Her two biggest challengers will almost surely be France's Camille Muffatt and the world record holder for the fastest time in this event: Italy's Federica Pellegrini.

Muffatt took third place in this event at the 2011 World Championships and is well accomplished in the 200-meter individual medley where she set the French and European record for the event back in 2009.

Pellegrini has more than a few gold medals from the Olympic and World Championships stage to her name and if she can keep her infamous anxiety attacks to a minimum before this race, she could just set a new world record.
