Athletes to Watch on Day 2
LeBron James, Basketball
Team USA has so much talent, but LeBron James has established himself as the best basketball player in the world after he led the Miami Heat to the NBA championship this year.
James averaged 27.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists this past season while shooting 53 percent from the floor. He's nearly an unstoppable force when he drives to the basket. He creates havoc on the defensive side of the ball and he can hit it from downtown, too—a complete player.
Jennifer Kessy & April Ross, Beach Volleyball
A lot of attention will be placed on two-time Olympic gold medalists Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh in the 2012 London Olympics, but Jennifer Kessy and April Ross have a shot of doing some damage, too.
Kessy and Ross not only beat the top Brazilian duo Juliana Silva and Larissa Franca in the FIVB World Championships in 2009, but they also beat out May-Treanor and Walsh in the U.S. Olympics trials this year.
Kessy and Ross have a whole lot of momentum headed into London.
Kim Rhode, Shooting
How good of a shooter is Kim Rhode?
Well, she attempts to be the first American to capture an individual medal in five straight Olympics this year.
Rhode has won two gold medals, a silver medal and a bronze medal in the Summer Olympics, dating back to the 1996 Atlanta Games.
Michael Phelps, Swimming
Does Michael Phelps even need an introduction?
One of the world's greatest all-time swimmers, Phelps has won 14 gold medals at the Olympics, and he'll combine with fellow top swimmer Jason Lezak in the 4X100 freestyle relay on Sunday. The Americans won gold in the event in 2008, with Lezak roaring through the anchor leg in spectacular fashion.
