Top Performers
Vincent Hancock
Hancock defended his gold from the 2008 Beijing Games with another top honor in London. The 23-year-old skeet shooter set a new Olympic record in the event.
Missy Franklin
The 17-year-old prodigy earned her first gold in the women's 100m backstroke and also a bronze in the 4x100 freestyle relay with Team USA.
She's got a long, fruitful career ahead of her as an Olympic athlete and should bring home many more medals for our country.
Franklin captured her second gold medal as part of the U.S. Women's 4x200 Freestyle Relay Team. The team swam an Olympic record 7:42.92 in the race to beat second-place Australia by 1.49 seconds.
Matt Grevers
The 6'8" freak athlete dominated the men's 100m backstroke and set a new Olympic record with a time of 52.16 seconds.
His teammate, Nick Thoman, also surprised in the event and earned the US a silver medal.
Men's Archery Team
The United States men's archery team—comprised of Jake Kaminski, Brady Ellison and Jacob Wukie—earned Team USA's first medal of the London 2012 Olympics.
This medal was very nearly gold, but the team was edged out by the Italians by the narrowest margin possible, losing 219-218.
Ryan Lochte
One of the most hyped events of the entire Olympics turned out to be completely devoid of drama.
Michael Phelps was nowhere to be found in men's 400-meter individual medley race, failing to earn a medal and finishing in fourth place.
Lochte, however, completely dominated the field, winning the race by more than a three-second margin.
Lochte now has five medals in these Games with two gold, two silver and a bronze.
Phelps was able to get the better of Lochte when the two went head-to-head for the second time in the 200-meter individual medley as Lochte took Silver to Phelps' gold.
Elizabeth Beisel
Won silver in women's 400-meter individual medley.
Peter Vanderkaay
Won bronze in men's 400-meter freestyle.
Women's 4x100 meter relay team
The United States took bronze in this race, and Natalie Coughlin won her 12th Olympic medal, tying the record for most by an American female athlete.
Coughlin swan in the prelims, but not the finals. Every swimmer who participates in any of the event's races earns a medal.
Michael Phelps
Phelps is now officially the most decorated Olympian in history after claiming his 20th medal by winning the 200 IM.
Kayla Harrison
Harrison became the first American to claim a gold medal in Judo. Harrison's impressive run through the 172-pound division was capped by a shutout victory over British finalist Gemma Gibbons.
USA's Marti Malloy was able to earn the bronze at 126-pounds to add a second Judo medal to the American total.
