Women's Olympic Basketball 2012 Scores: Group Round Standings, Stats and More
The United States women's basketball team enters the 2012 London Olympics as a massive favorite just like their male counterparts. Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird and Co. can't take anything for granted, however, because a couple teams are capable of pulling off an upset.
Aside from Team USA, the top contenders are Australia and Russia. Australia has won silver in each of the past three Olympics and features two WNBA players in Lauren Jackson and Liz Cambage. Russia is the two-time defending bronze medalist.
Those three teams have separated themselves from the pack and should claim the medals in London. It just comes down to which squad takes home gold. If the Americans play up to their potential throughout the tournament, they'll be extremely tough to stop.
The following slides include the current Group Stage standings, a schedule for each day of action and scores and stats from the completed contests. It will be updated throughout the round, so keep checking back for the latest information.

1 of 7Group A features Angola, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Turkey and the United States. It's a group that the Americans should win with relative ease given the lack of success the other teams have had on the international level.
After the United States, things are pretty wide open. Czech Republic and Turkey are the next most likely squads to advance to the knockout stages, but the fourth spot is a mystery. It's a golden opportunity for a non-traditional basketball power to move on.

Australia and Russia are both favored to advance given their past Olympic success. France is a team on the rise after some success at the European Championships. And, just like in the other group, there should be a close battle for the last advancement spot.
