Italy 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony Uniforms: Sleek or Stupid?
Italy will dispatch with all the colors as they step into the Olympics during the opening ceremony, and it's the right choice when you consider what their uniforms look like.
Armani had the task of dressing the best athletes in Italy from head to toe in fashion that would make the country proud.
I am guessing most Italians are beaming with the sartorial decisions made on their behalf.
Here are some pictures taken from a report in Yahoo! Sports. The main controversy, as you see, is the lack of Italian colors that adorn the flag.
This is a direct departure of the usual constant at the opening ceremony for every other country. Each taking care to shape their uniforms to conform to their respective flag's colors.
Not here. But that doesn't have to be a bad thing.
Much has been made, as it is every four years, on how each country will dress. The fine US of A will look refined but made the blunder of having the uniforms made in China, causing quite the controversy.
And then there is Spain. Words don't do justice to the misery felt by these athletes who have to walk out in these travesties.
So we come back to Italy and its black and white suits that are far from somber. They may lack color but invoke sophistication.
If a country wants to dress in anything, you can do far worse than refined sophistication.
I'm willing to pause, take a longer look than is normally warranted when considering a uniform and breath out a sigh of relief.
Italy looks sweet.
