Olympic Basketball 2012: International Players NBA Scouts Will Be Watching
The main focus of basketball fans around the globe will be on some of the bigger names competing for their countries during the Olympic basketball tournament.
But flying under the radar will be several international players who have yet to join the ranks of the NBA or at most, very briefly.
However, despite being under the radar to most fans of the sport, NBA scouts will have their eyes peeled in order to find the next great international talent.
Let's take a look at some players from around the globe who could fit that bill.
Vitaliy Fridzon: 6'5", Guard, Russia
Fridzon might not be the most athletic guard on the floor at all times, but the man can downright shoot the ball from anywhere.
During the qualifiers for the London Games, Fridzon shot an astounding 78.6 percent from beyond the arc. Range like that doesn't come around very often and a gaudy number like that is sure to catch the eye of any scout.
In all, Fridzon averaged 14.5 points per game along with two assists. He was instrumental in Russia's qualifying for the 2012 Olympics.
Juan Carlos Navarro: 6'3", Guard, Spain
With point guards at a premium in the NBA nowadays, a guy like Navarro could help out several teams in the NBA.
After a brief, one-year stint with the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2007-08 season that saw him average 10.9 points, 2.2 assists and 2.5 rebounds—numbers that were good enough for the NBA All-Rookie Second Team—Navarro is back playing for Spain.
Navarro is a solid shooter who handles the ball well with few turnovers. Tell me there are no NBA teams looking for a floor general like that.
Salah Mejri: 7'1", Center, Tunisia
The Tunisian big man will be one of the bigger bodies in the Olympic games this year.
Speaking of being at a premium, quality centers that can handle their position fit the same bill. That being said, Mejri has the potential to be a solid big man in the NBA if given the opportunity.
Mejri won't score a ton of points, but he will take advantage of easy opportunities in the paint. More importantly, he is a solid defender who can hit the glass hard and be a difference maker on the defensive end.
