WWE Raw: Why AJ Is a Bad Choice for General Manager

Sharon GlencrossJun 2, 2018

Last night, on Raw's 1,000th episode, it was sensationally announced by WWE owner Vince McMahon that AJ would be the new Raw GM.

The reveal came during the AJ/Daniel Bryan wedding, with the blushing bride seemingly choosing her career over marriage and leaving her stunned groom at the altar.

Poor Daniel, he got all dressed up and wore that ridiculous white suit for nothing.

As far as the announcement itself goes, while opinions will differ, we reckon AJ as the new GM was a bad, counter-productive decision that will greatly hinder WWE's flagship show in the weeks and months to come.

And here are five reasons why.

AJ Is Already over-Exposed

1 of 5

In the past few months, the former NXT star has been all over television and pay-per-view, becoming the most pushed female performer since Rena "Sable" Mero in the late '90s.

How over-exposed has AJ become? Well, the recent Daniel Bryan/CM Punk feud was focused mainly on her and who she would pick to be her boyfriend, not the two wrestlers or the supposedly prestigious WWE Championship they were fighting for.

As GM of Raw, her profile will no doubt go up even further as she runs the show and makes matches. For the fans who are fast growing tired of her, this is not good news.

She Is Better off as Daniel Bryan's Manager

Let's face it: AJ and Bryan made a great on-screen couple. They were believable as a couple, their chemistry was very strong and they brought out the best in each other as characters (AJ as the mousy, infatuated girlfriend, Daniel as her boorish, uncaring partner). With some more time, they could have been a modern-day Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth.

With this in mind, making AJ the new GM and separating her from Bryan in the storylines will surely go down in history as a major mistake. These two worked best together.

She Could Be in the Diva's Division Instead

3 of 5

The floundering WWE Diva's division is in a bit of trouble. Layla is the Diva's champion, but few care. There are no real challengers for her, either. And, hey, even if there were, it's not like WWE are keen to give their women's roster the promo and match time needed to get their feuds over.

With this in mind, someone like AJ (who is a fairly big star) could have been just what women's wrestling in WWE needed. Certainly, she's capable of drumming up more interest in the Diva's division than Layla or Beth Phoenix are.

But by making AJ the new Raw GM, WWE has ruled out the possibility of her joining the Diva's division anytime soon. Considering what an asset she could have been, this is bad news.

She's Crazy

4 of 5

You have to wonder what Vince McMahon was thinking when he gave AJ the GM job.

I mean, come on, has he been watching Raw lately? The love triangle storyline with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan proved conclusively that this girl is not mentally stable at all. Indeed, at various points we saw the unhinged Diva stalk and assault both of them after they (unwittingly) displeased her. She's also prone to violent temper tantrums and extreme mood swings, if backstage segments are anything to go by.

Definitely not the sort of person you'd want in an upper-management position. Let's face it: This woman is a human resources nightmare.

There Are Better Candidates

Frankly, out of all the potential Raw GMs, AJ has to be one of the weaker options.

What about Diva Search winner Eve, who has been impressive as a personality and on the mic in recent months after turning heel on Zack Ryder? Or Vickie Guerrero, who can garner better heat than most of the roster? Or popular babyface Teddy Long. WWE Legend Mick Foley would have also made a great GM.

AJ is talented, no doubt, but there are better people for the role.
