WWE: 10 Possible Legends vs. Superstars Feuds That Could Be Huge
Pro wrestling legends will always be a big part of the WWE.
While many fans want to see the current crop of superstars get a chance to shine, it's important that the WWE brings its legends and Hall of Famers around to help them do that.
We've seen that happen numerous times in the past, when legends return to feud with a star of today in a clash of two very different generations.
Generally speaking, legends vs. superstars feuds can give us some extremely entertaining programming, with great matches, fantastic promos and the evolution of the current star's character.
The most recent feud between a big-named legend and a current WWE star came when The Rock and John Cena went at it for more than a year before settling their differences at WrestleMania, and of course, this feud was huge.
But there are more potential rivalries between superstars and legends that could be big as well, so let's take a look at 10 that just popped into my head.
NOTE: I'm not saying these are the top 10 possible feuds. These are just ones that I think could work.
10. Triple H vs. Wade Barrett
1 of 10If you look at what Triple H has done throughout his career, he's feuded with or at least crossed paths with just about every main-eventer or borderline main-eventer currently in the WWE.
But one guy he's never stepped in the ring with is Wade Barrett.
Barrett has only been around for a couple of years now, and he's had major feuds with Randy Orton and John Cena and shorter-lived ones with the likes of CM Punk and Sheamus.
Now it's time for him to take on The Game.
Triple H has shown the ability to work well with a wide variety of opponents, while Barrett has made huge strides in the ring since his days as the leader of The Nexus. But the real selling point is the mic work of both of these guys.
I rank Triple H among the greatest mic workers ever, and Barrett has been one of the WWE's top talkers essentially from day one.
Throw these two into a major feud—similar to what Triple H did with Sheamus in 2010—and I think we could be pleasantly surprised with some really good promos and a great battle between one of the most accomplished WWE superstars ever and one of the company's most talented up-and-comers.
9. Dusty Rhodes vs. Cody Rhodes
2 of 10Dusty Rhodes is 66 years old, so no one should expect him to ever step into the ring again and deliver a phenomenal match.
But if there's one thing that works really well in wrestling, it's a good family feud, and Dusty could do great things for his son, Cody Rhodes, in a rivalry with the former Intercontinental champion.
For whatever reason, Cody seems to be getting lost in the shuffle at the moment, and he needs something major to help get him out of his rut.
We've seen Dusty interact with Cody on-screen numerous times in the past, but these have never really been much more than one-off appearances for Dusty.
So, perhaps the WWE can make this feud go a little deeper.
Being that Cody's one of the WWE's best young heels, it would get him some massive heat (and do him wonders) to step into the ring and interact with his father, who is one of the best talkers we've ever seen in pro wrestling.
Obviously, the in-ring action between the two would be limited, but perhaps utilizing another WWE star or past WWE star (maybe Goldust?) as Dusty's representative could work and help put Cody over in a big way as a heel who doesn't care about anyone, even his family.
8. Mick Foley vs. Dolph Ziggler
3 of 10The possibility of Mick Foley vs. Dolph Ziggler has been running through my mind ever since this happened.
The interaction between Foley and Ziggler was great here, and the fans absolutely hated Ziggler when he ridiculed Foley for wanting the spotlight even though he's well past his prime.
That could be the basis of a feud between the two, with Ziggler looking to make his way to the top of the WWE while Foley tries to have that one last big match so that his kids can see him wrestle.
Foley has hinted time and time again that he can wrestle again, saying that he believes he has "one big bump" left in him and that he believes that he has "one more match" left in him as well.
If that match ever comes to fruition, I truly believe that Foley's final bout will be used to put someone else over, possibly on the big stage of WrestleMania.
Why not Ziggler?
There's a history there, and Ziggler could definitely benefit from a major feud with a bona fide legend that sees him going over in the end.
7. Chris Jericho vs. Daniel Bryan
4 of 10This just oozes awesomeness.
Chris Jericho and Daniel Bryan have crossed paths a number of times in the WWE, dating way back to Bryan's NXT days in 2010.
But the possibility of this feud never seemed all that realistic until a few weeks back when Jericho and Bryan engaged in a classic battle of one-upmanship over the use of their catchphrases.
Since then, the Internet has been buzzing about the potential of seeing two of the WWE's top two overall performers in a feud that—should it live up to expectations—could be one of the best in recent memory.
With Bryan and Jericho both seemingly headed for separate feuds right now as well as Jericho's questionable future in the WWE, the recent interaction between these two may ultimately end up being nothing more than a tease.
Regardless, I think it's safe to say that putting two of the most popular and well-rounded stars in the business in a rivalry against one another could create some potentially phenomenal programming.
There is no hotter act in wrestling right now than Bryan, and with Jericho turning face (we think) last week, this rivalry could be epic.
The WWE would be wise to capitalize on this feud while it still can.
6. The Undertaker vs. Chris Jericho
5 of 10The Undertaker and Chris Jericho are two of the most accomplished stars in WWE history, and they've been in the company together for more than a decade.
But the interaction between the two has been surprisingly rare.
Undertaker and Jericho didn't feud with each other or have a singles match during the Attitude Era or even during the Ruthless Aggression Era. In fact, it wasn't until 2009 that they faced each other in a singles match for the very first time.
Shocking, huh?
Although Jericho won the World Heavyweight Championship in an Elimination Chamber match in 2010 by defeating Undertaker, this wasn't part of any real singles rivalry, and to this day, Undertaker vs. Jericho has only happened once in a match that took place on SmackDown.
Given the lack of interaction between Jericho and Undertaker throughout their careers and the fact that Undertaker is likely going to face another huge name at next year's WrestleMania, this is a potentially huge match that I'd love to see.
It's not superstar vs. legend, though. It's legend vs. legend.
5. 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin vs. Randy Orton
6 of 10If "Stone Cold" Steve Austin is really going to come back for one more match, there are only a few superstars who I want to see him face.
Randy Orton is one of them.
As we all know, Orton has, at times, been called "the next Steve Austin," primarily because of the way Orton's character has evolved in recent years into a bit of a twiner who, like Austin, does whatever the hell he wants, but still gets cheered for it.
Though I definitely wouldn't call Orton "the next Stone Cold"—he's Randy Orton—I can definitely see the comparisons between the two and why the fans would want to see them in the ring together.
In fact, I'm one of those fans.
Austin was hands down the biggest star of his generation. Meanwhile, Orton is undoubtedly one of the WWE's top current stars and has been for the better part of a decade.
That alone should be enough to sell this match, and assuming Stone Cold is healthy enough, make the fans want to see this rivalry take place.
But if that isn't enough for you to be interested in seeing this feud, then how about the battle of the finishing moves?
The RKO vs. the Stunner? Hell yeah.
4. Kurt Angle vs. Daniel Bryan
7 of 10Since Kurt Angle joined TNA in 2006, his stance on the WWE has been all over the place.
He loves the WWE one week, hates them the next and then, out of the blue, seems completely indifferent toward them.
Thus, I wouldn't say that the chances of Angle returning to the WWE for one last run are great, but is it possible? Absolutely.
Should the dominoes fall the right way, I could certainly see Angle heading back to the WWE for one final feud and match, and if that happens, I want that feud to be with Daniel Bryan.
Come on, you know this would be amazing.
You'd have Angle, arguably one of the top two or three in-ring workers ever, taking on Bryan, arguably the best in-ring worker in the WWE (or perhaps the world) today.
Angle and Bryan are two incredible technicians who know how to tell some great stories in the ring, and at the same time, they can work the mic better than just about anyone around as well.
I'm honestly not sure that there's a "dream match" that is still possible that would have a better mix of great wrestling and great talking than Bryan vs. Angle.
3. 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin vs. Punk
8 of 10The fans are still dreaming about "Stone Cold" Steve Austin vs. CM Punk.
Ever since Punk cut that famous worked shoot promo last summer while wearing an Austin T-shirt, the Internet has been abuzz about a potential rivalry between the two.
Like with the chatter about Austin vs. Randy Orton, you know the appeal here.
Austin was certainly the biggest star and biggest rebel of his generation, while Punk has become the WWE's current No. 2 star largely because of his rebel ways.
The comparisons between the two have been there for more than a year now and, in all likelihood, will continue to be there until this match actually happens (if it ever does).
The common prediction seems to be that Austin will face Punk at WrestleMania 29, especially when you consider that Austin has said that he'd like for any return feud to be against Punk.
This is far from a given, but I do think it actually has a chance of happening, and should this rivalry go down, you don't need me to tell you that it would be one of the biggest feuds in WWE history.
In fact, it's probably the closest thing to The Rock vs. Cena that we'd ever have a realistic chance of seeing.
2. The Rock vs. CM Punk
9 of 10As big as CM Punk vs. Steve Austin would be, Punk vs. The Rock might be even bigger.
Why? Well, because The Rock's considerably younger and healthier than Austin, and even though The Rock's had only two matches since 2004, he looked really good in both bouts.
The Rock can still go, and given that he's going to wrestle at least one more match in the WWE, you have to think that the odds of him facing Punk are really high.
Punk has held the WWE Championship for the better part of a year now, and the last time that The Rock appeared on WWE programming, he vowed to one day win the WWE title.
The chances that Punk is holding onto the WWE title when The Rock officially begins pursuing it are very good, and should everything fall into place, the chances of a match and feud between the two are great as well.
The Rock and Punk have had plenty of interaction on both WWE programming and Twitter, and obviously, they're two of the biggest draws in pro wrestling.
So, a match between the two would not only be one of the biggest ever, but it would also make sense.
The WWE is being given a rare opportunity here to make something happen between The Rock and Punk, and it would be a borderline travesty to miss it.
1. The Undertaker vs. John Cena
10 of 10Austin vs. Punk would be huge. So would Bryan vs. Angle or The Rock vs. Punk.
But nothing measures up to The Undertaker vs. John Cena.
Undertaker often doesn't get mentioned in the same category as The Rock or "Stone Cold" (I think this has a lot to do with the fact that Austin and Rock are more popular in the mainstream), but his impact on pro wrestling has been just as big, and he's still going strong.
As everyone knows, The Undertaker is 20-0 at WrestleMania, building up an absolutely legendary streak that has allowed him to become such a special attraction that he now only wrestles about once a year.
Taker has become synonymous with WrestleMania because his 'Mania feuds have been so great, but they've always been topped by his matches.
The Undertaker always steals the show at WrestleMania. Yet there's one man he's never faced there: John Cena.
Despite their statuses as two of the WWE's biggest stars, Undertaker and Cena haven't met in the ring very often (since 2006) and haven't feuded since 2004.
This feud has to happen. Has to.
The Undertaker's defense of "The Streak" is always one of the major selling points of WrestleMania, so just imagine how much bigger his match would be if it took place against the WWE's biggest star.
Although every year we expect The Undertaker to win at WrestleMania, Cena is the one and only guy who might make us think, "Holy crap. Is the streak about to end?"
Please, give us this match, WWE. It could be the most must-see attraction in WWE history.
