If the San Francisco 49ers Players Had Entrance Songs...
An entrance song always gives a sense of what is coming.
As a part-time fan of both boxing and wrestling, I feel I can gain a good bit of insight into an athletes personality just through their ring walk.
I'm on holiday right now and listening to a lot of music myself because I'm in the middle of nowhere; that is causing me to have so much free time that I began to consider what 49ers players might come out to.
After watching the David Haye and Amir Khan fights last week, I feel that 49er fans could easily come up with some better ideas for their own players.
This is just a bit of fun and not to be taken seriously, but I'd love to hear what you think would be appropriate music for the players.
Entrance music doesn't only give a idea of what kind of stuff you like listening to, it usually has a link to a nickname, your heritage or your personality in some way.
I hope you aren't offended by any lyrics.
Let the discussion begin!
Justin Smith
1 of 8"Cowboy" By Kid Rock
Justin Smith is a country boy who grew up on a cattle ranch, this playing a part in earning him his nickname of 'Cowboy.'
Justin Smith has been described as a lone ranger because of his laid back personality.
I could have selected the song "Cowboys from Hell" by Pantera, as that may more closely represent the mayhem that he causes on the field. But I'm sure that most fans will agree that 'Cowboy' is a fitting nickname and so a country song that goes by that title sums Smith up well.
Aldon Smith
2 of 8"99 Problems" by Jay-Z
Smith wears the number 99 on his jersey and so was given '99 Problems' as his nickname.
I love the nickname because it represents the many different ways that Smith can torture offensive lineman and quarterbacks. I can think of only five or six at the moment but I'm sure I can come up with another 93 if I'm given time.
I actually prefer "99 Problems/Points of Authority," which was part of the collaboration album between Linkin Park and Jay -Z, but I stuck with the original.
As we have seen with Smith's sack celebrations, he may not be the best dancer or entertainer, so we need some music like that of Jay-Z to restore some 'cool.'
Michael Crabtree
3 of 8"Crank That" by Ryze.
Crabtree was so great during his time with Texas Tech that he was given his own spoof music video.
Hearing the words "Crank That Crabtree" honestly make me laugh every time I hear them, but I actually think the song is pretty good as far as spoofs go.
What better song could Crabtree could come out to?
The only disappointing thing after hearing the song is that he has not quite become 'Superman' or a great receiver yet, as the song discussed.
The Entire 49ers Team
4 of 8I like this song and hope you do too.
After all, It's about your favourite team.
Randy Moss
5 of 8"One Clap" by DJ Steve Porter.
I love all of DJ Steve Porter's music and I think this is one of his best works.
I know many people would maybe expect a song about selfishness or an ego but I think this song gives everyone an insight into moss.
Also, since a DJ produced this track, it has the same qualities of a dance song that could get people jumping.
Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman
6 of 8"Riot" by Three Days Grace
NaVorro Bowman proved to be a Patrick Willis clone and so I'm putting them together here.
When talking about Willis and Bowman, you have to consider the violent way they can play the game; bodies flying everywhere and the game being played at a furious pace.
Just as Willis and Bowman always play the game in an up-tempo fashion, I felt this song evoked that same feeling.
I'm not sure if Willis or Bowman are the type to start a riot but when you consider the hurt they put on opponents during games, people wouldn't know the difference!
Carlos Rogers
7 of 8"Let You Go" by Chase & Status feat Mali
This song is a personal favourite and I wanted to find a way to fit it in.
Rogers is a top cornerback and very rarely allows anyone out of his sight on the field; much like the storyline of this song.
"Let You Go" is a really popular track that has forced festival-goers at T in the Park, among other festivals, to go into a trance-like state while jumping around excitedly.
Isaac Sopoaga
8 of 8"Jah Live" by Lucky Dube
This song perfectly fits the fun-loving personality of Sopoaga.
More importantly, he has already made it clear that he approves of this artist in particular. The approval was shown when he started a "locker room luau" to this song.
Grant Cohn of 49ersPressDemocrat.com reports that Sopoaga brought his iPhone to work and started the fun whilst Vernon Davis was trying to get an interview done and getting a number of teammates involved in the process.
