Great Britain vs. Brazil: Chemistry More Important Than Outcome for British
For the first time since 1960, there will be a Great Britain soccer team in the Olympics. This is an exciting and fun prospect, but the team lacks continuity.
This team, which is largely comprised of English stars, will feature five Welsh players. They will come together to form a talented squad with legitimate medal hopes.
Great Britain will be playing in Group A with Uruguay, Senegal and United Arab Emirates, and according to Bovada, they are the favorites to win the group.
But before they get to any of this, they have a friendly with Brazil on Friday at Middlesbrough to think about. What a way to start their first match as a group. Brazil is one of the clear favorites to win Olympic gold.
While they will obviously be trying to win, it will be even more important for them to learn how to play together. This squad is at an experience disadvantage and will need to use this game as a chemistry crash course.
If working out the kinks leads to them allowing a goal or two more than they otherwise would have, so be it. It will be for the greater good.
This is a talented team that doesn't have to look very far for motivation. They are making history simply by playing together.
The journey to the medal round starts against Brazil.
