WWE Money in the Bank 2012: Why John Cena's Win Is Perfect

Donald WoodJul 17, 2012

While the majority of the IWC has done nothing but complain since John Cena pulled down the RAW Money in the Bank briefcase, the truth of the matter is that this is the best move for all parties involved.

The WWE is better when Cena is near the title.

To understand this concept, the fans have to be honest with themselves: the WWE is a business and Cena is the company’s top moneymaker.

Vince McMahon and the WWE brass want to have their biggest star main eventing shows, so going up against CM Punk for the  title is the smartest business plan moving forward.

Having Cena win Money in the Bank was the best way for the WWE star to “earn” his title shot instead of being handed it like many fans have complained about in the past.

WWE Title is the Main Event

The biggest complaint coming out of Money in the Bank was the placement of the WWE title match. While many fans felt that it should have been the main event, Punk and Bryan fought at the midway mark while Cena and the RAW Money in the Bank closed the show.

This PPV booking was a classic case of the WWE scheduling their biggest star to end the show, which is the right way to do it. Just like the days when Hulk Hogan was headlining shows that Macho Man should have been main eventing, it all comes down to the almighty dollar.

With Cena having the Money in the Bank briefcase, any doubt that Punk and the WWE title would be the main event moving forward has been shattered. The fans will get their title match main event, just with more Cena than most would like.

Further Puts Over CM Punk

There have been many questions over Punk’s title reign about whether or not he can hold the fort down and keep the company running strong if Cena had to miss an extended amount of time.

These questions are valid, but the company could go a long way in ensuring Punk’s success by having Cena continue to put the current WWE Champion over. Just like Jericho and Bryan, Cena must lose in his attempts to beat Punk for the gold.

At least at first…

Cena ultimately has to go over and have another reign as champion, both to bring the value of the product back up during their run through the rest of the summer and into the fall and to give him another notch for what will ultimately become his greatest-of-all-time campaign.

Adds More Prestige to Money in the Bank

With John Cena being the unquestioned face of the WWE, having him win the Money in the Bank automatically makes it one of the more prestigious matches in history.

The Money in the Bank ladder matches were already great because of the success rate of the match’s winners, but adding Cena to the equation should do exactly what adding Cena to the Elimination Chamber did.

Cena’s win gave the casual fans a reason to love this match.

From now on, whenever WWE puts over a young guy in the Money in the Bank matches, they can now tout that they won the same match that Cena won. While it sounds cheesy, that’s enough to give a star a slight rub.
