WWE Money in the Bank 2012: Match-by-Match Analysis
The 2012 Money in the Bank pay-per-view is now in the record books.
There were indeed some highs and lows throughout the PPV, with most of it being predictable.
Overall, this Money in the Bank lived a bit under its standards. There were subpar matches, and only one match lived up to the hype.
Here is an analysis of every match.
Pre-Show: Kofi Kingston/R-Truth d. Hunico/Camacho
1 of 8Decent match between these two teams. Still don't quite understand why this match took place, but the level of action was good for the tag team division.
Hopefully this propels the division into greater heights.
Dolph Ziggler Wins WHC MITB Match
2 of 8Great move by the WWE.
Dolph Ziggler is well-deserved of winning the match, and this was indeed the match of the night.
Hopefully Ziggler is not the first victim of losing when he cashes in the MITB contract (as we received a scare later in the show).
Sheamus D. Alberto Del Rio
3 of 8Nothing too special about this match, other than it proves that Alberto Del Rio is not ready to be a top guy. The match was pretty lackluster, and I wouldn't blame Sheamus for it (his match against Jericho on SmackDown was stellar).
The post-match beatdown by ADR pretty much set up a potential cash-in by Ziggler. Thankfully, we just saw a Brogue Kick and not a failed attempt of cashing in the case.
Primo/Epico d. Prime Time Players
4 of 8This match was rather confusing. The Prime Time Players are the No. 1 contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championship, but they lost to Primo and Epico at the PPV, as well as losing in singles matches.
So what does this mean? Does Primo/Epico automatically put themselves in the title hunt now? I guess we shall see.
CM Punk d. Daniel Bryan
5 of 8Rather predictable ending to this match. I was fairly certain that the WWE was not going to let Daniel Bryan headline SummerSlam with the title.
The quality of the match was a bit less than the hype, primarily due to it being a little too gimmicky. It seems like the feud is over, which is a good thing for now.
Ryback d. Hawkins/Reks
6 of 8Very predictable outcome.
At least there was a bit of direction with this match. Ryback had singles matches with both of them leading up to the PPV. Out of all the handicap matches, this was the best one. There was plenty of offense from Hawkins and Reks, which gave Ryback some vulnerability.
One would think who would be the first person or people to beat Ryback. Hawkins and Reks would be a good choice if they had another opportunity.
Layla/Tamina Snuka/Kaitlyn d. Beth Phoenix/Natalya/Eve
7 of 8Totally a pointless match. It really shows how low the Divas division has got.
Although Layla is a good wrestler, she is not the best choice to be champion right now.
John Cena Wins the WWE Championship MITB Match
8 of 8Yawn.
John Cena was the favorite to win, but it was totally unnecessary. He could have cut a promo on the next Raw and been involved in the world title hunt leading to SummerSlam.
The match was not bad, and it was a good idea to add the Miz. Chris Jericho was indeed the MVP of the match, and would have been a better idea for him to win it.
And what about that briefcase blooper?
Seemingly, Cena was going to win anyway—but Big Show was also on the ladder, so one may wonder if he was in the running to win it as well.
