WWE Rumors: Money in the Bank Results, CM Punk and Monday's Top WWE News

Adam WellsJul 16, 2012

It is now safe to say that Money In the Bank should take over WWE as the second biggest pay-per-view of the year. Not that it will ever happen because there are bigger names out there, but this show, more than any other, always delivers the goods.

For all the problems that there were with the booking—and there were plenty—the show itself was probably the best WWE has put on this year. All of the matches that anyone cares about delivered in their own way, and the filler didn't drag on too long.

Coming off such a strong event, WWE has a lot of work to do tonight in order to set up what is sure to be one of the most eventful Raw shows in history next week.

MONEY IN THE BANK WITH NO SURPRISES

Despite my insistence that WWE would try something drastic with one of the top matches since everyone had pretty much figured out the winners, everyone who was thought to win wound up winning—John Cena, CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, Sheamus.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Is predictability a bad thing?

Our Take: Absolutely not. In fact, WWE gets in trouble when it changes match results just to swerve the dirtsheets. As long as the execution is good, it shouldn't matter if the audience figures out the winners in advance. That is exactly what happened on Sunday night.

Hype Meter: 5 out of 5 Epic PPV's

Given the fighting spirit of the John Cena character, I will be interested to see how his title pursuit is handled. I would be shocked if he doesn't win it, but I have to believe he is just going to issue a straight challenge to CM Punk in the next two weeks for a SummerSlam match.

THE GOOD AND BAD OF CM PUNK'S TITLE REIGN

On the plus side, CM Punk retained the WWE title and is on the verge of becoming one of the longest reigning champions in recent memory. On the down side, he has defended the title in one PPV main event—December's TLC show. He is not a bigger star today than when he won the title, which is a big problem.

Question on Everybody's Mind: What does WWE do with Punk?

Our Take: He is going to feud with Cena, again. I suppose WWE could turn Punk heel and have that feud go on for a couple months, though I don't see a lot of desire for another feud between them after last year's fizzled so horribly at the end.

Hype Meter: 3 out of 5 Fake Pushes

It is interesting looking at Punk's push. He was on his way to becoming a huge star, but unless you are main eventing pay-per-view shows, fans aren't going to see you that way. The WWE champion always fighting in semi-main events does nothing for him or the belt.

RICARDO RODRIGUEZ WARNS SHEAMUS

Of all the people for WWE to have promote a match with Sheamus on Twitter, Ricardo Rodriguez would not be near the top of the list. That is exactly what Alberto Del Rio's personal ring announcer did, posting that Del Rio got screwed and Dolph Ziggler better stay out of the way.

Question on Everybody's Mind: Who will get the next world title shot?

Our Take: As much as I want to see a singles match between Sheamus and Ziggler because I know it will be really good if given the time, Ziggler is a heel, so it's doubtful they will just do a straight singles match. That likely makes Del Rio the challenger at SummerSlam.

Hype Meter: 2 out of 5 World Title Rematches

I can't say a Del Rio-Sheamus match is a bad thing, because I liked the match they had at Money In the Bank. I just want to see Ziggler get a real push to see if he can become one of the top stars in WWE.

KHARMA NOT READY FOR WORK JUST YET

While we anxiously await official word from WWE on Kharma's status with the company, she posted on Twitter that she is not taking bookings from anyone else right now.

"

Thank you to all of the offers pouring in. However, I am not taking bookings at this time. :)

— Kharma (@Kharma) July 15, 2012"

Question on Everybody's Mind: What does that mean?

Our Take: It either means that she and WWE have come to terms on a release but she doesn't want to work and/or has a non-compete clause, or she and WWE are just posturing about things to swerve the audience when she makes her return.

Hype Meter: 0 out of 5 Sad Endings

Sadly, I believe the former is the truth. That will be too bad, because the divas division was so much more interesting with Kharma a part of it. All we have to look forward to now is A.J. not selling bumps and whining about who her husband might be. Oy.
