WWE Money in the Bank 2012 Results: AJ's Role as Guest Ref Was Too Predictable

Sam R. QuinnJun 6, 2018

There's no way you didn't see this coming.

Not C.M. Punk's victory—although that was predictable in itself—but AJ's role as a guest referee in the no disqualification match between Punk and Daniel Bryan for the WWE title at the 2012 WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

The WWE creative writing employee that was in charge of conjuring up the mentally unsound AJ deserves a raise, promotion, Congressional Medal of Honor or whatever other accolade that can be awarded to a citizen because she has evolved into a monster.

She's so intriguing because she is the most dangerous indirect threat to the well-being of Punk and Bryan in the WWE today. When she gets that look in her eyes, you don't know what she's going to do.

That being said, that same member of the creative department could have done a better job at writing a less predictable script at Money in the Bank.

Once she hurt her neck and left the spotlight, it wasn't a question of whether she was going to come back, but rather a question of when she was going to.

There doesn't seem to be much of a point in having her leave for half the match, but it happened nonetheless. This match was billed around the fact that she would be a guest referee, running roughshod on both Punk and Bryan in their quest for victory, but she wasn't even around for half of it.

It's a simple—yet genius—marketing ploy to get people to watch. The WWE can't be faulted for that, but they need to put out some less predictable stories.

The match on Sunday night was extremely entertaining, but AJ hardly furthered the cause of entertainment.

We all knew that she was going to have that look in her eye and take out some weapons just as she has in the past. It wouldn't have been much different if Punk or Bryan took the chair or table out on their own.

It's understandable that she is involved to bring about a side plot, but it's become drawn out and simply weird at this stage. AJ's character is absolutely bonkers, but she doesn't need to linger around, trying to sabotage the efforts of everybody that stands in her way.

Punk turned down her marriage proposal because she's a certifiable lunatic. Bryan seems to enjoy nothing more than confusing her. There's just not much of a reason for her to be so deeply involved in this saga for much longer.

That is, unless, something is done to spice up her role. The creative department needs to start getting her involved in other ventures and partaking in things that no fan could expect.

Of course, that could take awhile, but this process has been going on for a long time and should be put to rest soon.
