WWE Chatter
With Money in the Bank set for Sunday, this week's RAW was chock full of action, and while the show itself didn't receive great reviews, it did what it needed to do for the sake of the pay-per-view.
The main storyline continues to be the WWE Championship feud and love triangle between CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and AJ. Also, the WWE Championship contract Money in the Bank ladder match rounded into form as John Cena, Chris Jericho, Kane and Big Show got in their last licks before Sunday's tilt.
Question on Everybody's Mind: Has the WWE Championship Feud Build Been Effective?
There have been so many twists and turns in the saga between Punk, Bryan and AJ that it's tough to say whether the angle has worked to this point. Even if you aren't a big fan of the storyline, though, you can't deny that it is the best and most comprehensive thing going in WWE currently.
There really aren't any other well-thought-out angles to cling to, so the Punk/Bryan/AJ conundrum is the only game in town, so to speak.
Ring Rust Radio's Take
There have been times during this angle when things were too convoluted, such as when Kane was involved, but things seem to finally be rounding into form. The biggest issue with the storyline previously was the fact that Cena continually stole its thunder.
He was the main focus during his feud with Big Show, but now that both of them are in the Money in the Bank ladder match, there has been more time for Punk, Bryan and AJ to shine.
AJ in particular has really impressed a lot of people as she has played the crazy girlfriend role perfectly and hasn't given fans the slightest clue what she might do as special guest referee on Sunday.
It is tough to remember a diva having such a big part in an important feud, but AJ, Punk and Bryan have been closing and stealing the show with great regularity.
Bleacher Report Insider Scoop: Who Will AJ Choose?
Extreme Rising Interview with New Jack
Ring Rust Radio has had some of the biggest names in wrestling on the show, but none of them have been as controversial and entertaining as former ECW star New Jack.
The multi-time tag team champion has accomplished a ton in the wrestling business and continues to treat fans to this day as he is an integral figure at the Extreme Rising shows and performed a couple weeks ago in New York and the extreme wrestling hotbed of Philadelphia.
Question on Everybody's Mind: Is There a Better Interview Than New Jack?
Ring Rust Radio enjoys and appreciates every single guest it has the good fortune of booking, but it is hard to argue with the notion of New Jack being the best.
Tuesday's interview was a great example as New Jack didn't shy away when asked about reports regarding a run in with Balls Mahoney at the Extreme Rising show in Philly.
Rumors were that New Jack had assaulted Mahoney backstage and attempted to pull a machete on him. While most guys would have shied away from addressing it, New Jack didn't hesitate.
Ring Rust Radio's Take
New Jack may come off as a brutal, hardened guy that strikes fear into everyone, but he also happens to be very knowledgeable about the business.
New Jack was forthcoming about the failures of the initial Extreme Rising shows and had plenty of insight regarding how things can get even better moving forward.
New Jack simply tells it how it is and says whatever is on his mind, and there are very few people like that in the business today.
With regards to his heat with Mahoney, most are probably ready to write off New Jack as the aggressor, but he explained in detail why he did what he did. New Jack probably could have handled things differently, but he was clearly provoked and took matters into his own hands.
Most wrestlers try to hide from controversy, but New Jack thrives on it and that is why he is such a great guest.
Bleacher Report Insider Scoop: Latest WWE News and Rumors
Brian Mazique's Top 10 Wrestlers
As if New Jack weren't enough, Ring Rust Radio had another fantastic guest as Bleacher Report featured columnist Brian Mazique joined us to talk about his wrestling article series, which broke down the top 50 wrestlers of all time in his opinion. Brian revealed his top 10 and the RRR panel wasn't shy about praising him for his good selections and ripping him for his poor ones.
Question on Everybody's Mind: Where Does Shawn Michaels Rank in Wrestling History?
While there were several different wrestlers mentioned during the debate between Brian and the RRR squad, nobody elicited a bigger response than Shawn Michaels. When WWE released a top-50 list, Michaels was the No. 1 guy.
Brian had him at No. 6, but some thought he should be higher, while others wanted him lower. There was an inordinate amount of Heartbreak Kid hate, however, and that isn't something that listeners and commenters took kindly to.
Ring Rust Radio's Take
The less-educated RRR members didn't believe that Michaels deserved a spot in the top 10 at all, but that is preposterous.
Say what you will about Michaels not drawing as the top dog in 1996, but there is more to the ranking than that. The Undertaker was never a top draw either, but people were willing to rank him ahead of Michaels for whatever reason.
The fact of the matter is that Michaels is one of the greatest in-ring competitors of all time and he stole the show essentially every time he performed.
Michaels was great prior to his back injury in 1997, but he may have been even better after he returned. Michaels essentially had two different careers and he excelled in both of them, so there is little doubt that he deserves a spot in the top three at the very least.
