Josh Gordon: Browns Score Big by Nabbing WR in Supplemental Draft
The Cleveland Browns have landed the most intriguing prospect available in this year's NFL Supplemental Draft, selecting Josh Gordon in the second round.
For a team that failed to select a high-profile receiver in last April's draft, this is an excellent move.
Adam Schefter of ESPN tweeted the pick.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
"And in today's supplemental draft, former Baylor WR Josh Gordon goes to...Cleveland in round 2
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) July 12, 2012"
Gordon had an excellent 2010 sophomore season for Baylor, finishing with 42 receptions for 742 yards and seven touchdowns. He seemed poised to become a big-time college receiver, but that changed when he was kicked off the team for violating team rules after being arrested in 2010 for marijuana possession.
He had to sit out a year after transferring to Utah in 2011, and decided to declare for the Supplemental Draft rather than play for the Utes this season.
He certainly impressed at his workouts, reportedly running a 4.52 40-yard dash, jumping 36 inches in his vertical and flashing excellent hands.
For a team that only drafted Travis Benjamin despite obvious needs at wide receiver—has Greg Little honestly proven he can be a top receiving threat yet?—selecting Gordon was an excellent risk to take. Yes, he needs to prove he can stay out of trouble, but the kid clearly has talent.
Purely from a "comes out of nowhere and blows up" perspective, he could eventually have a Victor Cruz-type impact for the Browns. Or, he might just become another name we all forget in a few years as he fades into oblivion.
But hey, it's the Supplemental Draft. If you honestly think you are going to cherry pick stars from this group, you've got another thing coming. If Gordon ever becomes a productive receiver for the Browns, it will be like finding a $50 bill in a parking lot.
He certainly has the ability to become a nice player for the Browns. And thus, based on potential alone, his selection was an excellent decision by the Cleveland front office.
