John Terry Racism Case: Terry's Captaincy Rides on Decision
If John Terry is found guilty, he does not deserve to be Chelsea's captain.
Terry is being accused of using "threatening, abusive or insulting words" toward Anton Ferdinand in a match against Queens Park Rangers this past season. The defense has rested, and it's clear that Terry has loads of support.
If Terry truly did use racist comments to insult Ferdinand, though, he is an embarrassment. There is no place for racism in the world, and certainly not in the game of football. Terry is a 31-year-old captain that wears an armband that says "respect." He simply can't stoop to that level, especially while wearing the armband.

With that said, there are plenty of people that have Terry's back. Ashely Cole supported Terry (h/t itv.com), and even said that the trial shouldn't be happening. He, along with 16 other teammates, supported their skipper.
Additionally, Terry's former coach, Jose Mourinho said, in a written statement(h/t itv.com), that he is "certain that John Terry is not a racist." That's a strong statement, and Terry better hope it's true.
All of these testimonies prove how people at Chelsea view Terry. The man is a leader, and everyone at Chelsea respects him. However, if he's found guilty, he will have to lead without being captain.
For better or for worse, Chelsea will stand behind Terry. Maybe his remarks were malicious, and Chelsea will have to punish Terry accordingly. Maybe, like Cole described, Terry was just asking Ferdinand what he thought the Chelsea captain had said. If that's the case, this whole thing might be quickly forgotten.
Regardless of which story is true, Terry will have support.
The man is a legend at the club, and this incident will not undue that. However, if he is found guilty, he should no longer be the captain. A captain is held to a higher standard, and if he's found guilty, Terry did not live up to that.
According to Dan Roan of BBC, it is "very likely" that there will be a decision on Friday. If Terry is found guilty, he should never wear the Chelsea captain's band ever again.
