NBA Rumors: Breaking Down Today's Most Scorching Reports

Adam FromalJun 3, 2018

The wheels keep on spinning during the free agency moratorium. Deals and rumors just never stop flowing in.

From Dwight Howard to Steve Novak, these are the biggest stories from Monday's rumor mill.

We have a dissatisfied superstar or two to talk about, a max contract offer sheet to deal with and a few signings of less importance.

Read on for the most scoring reports from Monday.

Dwight Howard Trade Gains Some Steam

1 of 5

The framework has been built for a four-team blockbuster trade that would send Dwight Howard to the Brooklyn Nets and end the months of speculation about where the center would land.

Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski has the full scoop on how the trade would play out:

"

In the proposed deal, Howard, Jason Richardson and Earl Clark would be sent to Brooklyn, and the Magic would receive the Nets' Brook Lopez, Damion James, Sheldon Williams, Cleveland's Luke Walton and three future first-round picks, sources said. Cleveland would receive Orlando's Quentin Richardson, Brooklyn's Sundiata Gaines, Kris Humphries (on a one-year guaranteed deal), a first-round pick and $3 million from the Nets. Brooklyn also would send Brooks to a fourth team to get them an additional first-round pick to send to the Magic.

"

According to ESPN's Chad Ford, the Los Angeles Clippers are that unnamed fourth team who will be getting MarShon Brooks in the deal:

"

Just going up on ESPN. Clipoers will be 4th team in D Howard deal. They would take back MarShon Brooks in return for a lottery protected 1st.

— Chad Ford (@chadfordinsider) July 9, 2012"

You can find a full breakdown of the proposed trade here, but keep in mind that nothing is set in stone and won't be until the back of Dwight Howard and the foot of Brook Lopez are both examined by their respective potential new teams.

Kris Humphries also has the ability to hold up the trade if he doesn't want to agree to a one-year deal and continues to seek a lengthy contract.

Kevin Love Isn't Satisfied with the Minnesota Timberwolves

2 of 5

ESPN reports that Kevin Love is already growing tired of being on a perennial loser. Even though things are starting to look up for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Love wants it all and he wants it right now:

"

"My patience is not high," Love told Yahoo! Sports. "Would yours be, especially when I'm a big proponent of greatness surrounding itself with greatness? All these (Team USA) guys seem to have great players around them."

"It's tough seeing all these guys that are young and older who have all played in the playoffs. When they start talking about that, I have nothing to talk about. If I don't make the playoffs next year, I don't know what will happen."

"

Love, although happy with his contract said, "but like anybody else, I want to win."

This obviously isn't good news for the Wolves and we'll hopefully be able to avoid a Dwight Howard situation with Love in the future.

Love is the best power forward in the game right now, but he needs to have a little bit more patience. He's only 23-years-old, has a nice roster to support him, plays on a team that is becoming a playoff contender and has some intriguing new pieces in Chase Budinger and Brandon Roy.

Ideally, this is the last we hear on the subject from Love as he attempts to avoid any "selfish" labels.

Indiana Pacers Will Reportedly Match Offer for Roy Hibbert

3 of 5

While it was expected that the Indiana Pacers would match the Portland Trail Blazers' max contract offer and keep Roy Hibbert on his current team, Mike Wells of the Indianapolis Star tweets that it is now official.

Portland had attempted to lure away the star center with a four-year offer sheet worth $58 million, but Hibbert won't be changing locations after all.

Hibbert may not be worth a max contract right now, but it's still a solid move by the Pacers because they get to keep a crucial part of their team and a promising young center who can excel in a center-starved NBA

"

Let the market define the terms of negotiation, and even if they extend all the way to a max contract, you keep that guy in the fold. Roy Hibbert is an All-Star center, and you pay whatever you have to in order to keep that guy on your team. Sometimes hoops be simple, yo.

Steve Novak to Remain with the New York Knicks

4 of 5

The sharpshooter will remain in the same location.

Jeremy Lin (assuming the New York Knicks do indeed match his offer sheet from the Houston Rockets) will have him to kick the ball to on the perimeter. Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire can continue to pass the ball to him when their isolation plays seem doomed.

Steve Novak is returning to the Knicks, according to CBS' Ken Berger:

"

Novak's deal with the Knicks is for $15 million over four years with no options.

— Ken Berger (@KBergCBS) July 9, 2012"

Novak knocked down a sensational 47 percent of his triples last season en route to averaging 8.8 points per game with a PER of 15.95.

Expect a similar output from Novak next season as well.

Boston Celtics Want Courtney Lee

5 of 5

The Boston Celtics have interest in Courtney Lee and he's well aware of it.

Lee gave a few choice quotes to The Boston Herald while watching an Orlando Summer League game on Monday:

"

"Well, Houston loves getting draft picks, so that could open it up to a sign and trade (between the Rockets and Celtics),” the former Houston guard, who lives in Orlando, said today while watching an Orlando Summer League game. “That’s one possibility that the Celtics have.

Lee, though, is admittedly not in a rush. He is talking to teams that have more than the Celtics can offer. But the Cs may have another inroad, thanks to Lee’s friendship with Rivers and his family.

"We’ll see where (the Celtics) are at," said Lee. “But for the most part the meeting went well. Me and Doc have always had a good relationship since I’ve been in the NBA. I’m friends with both of his sons, Austin and Jeremiah. It was just a casual meeting between me and Doc.”

Well, not entirely casual.

“In this stage it’s a process, feeling out teams that have an interest in you,” said Lee. “I don’t have to make a decision right away. There’s a few teams out there that have interest.”

"

Lee is one of the best players still available in free agency as he looks to escape from behind Kevin Martin in the Rockets' depth chart.

As shooting guard who doesn't always draw contact and sometimes struggles with his dribbling skills, the former Houston Rocket used his outside shooting and athleticism to average 14.0 points, 1.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game as a starter last season.

He'd be a great fit for the Boston Celtics as they look to shore up the shooting guard position following the departure of Ray Allen to the Miami Heat.
