Knicks Rumors: With Jason Kidd Agreeing, Is a Shooting Guard Next?
ESPN's Marc Stein is reporting that Jason Kidd has decided to leave Dallas and come to New York. Although the contract cannot be signed until July 11, this is a big move for the Knicks.
This acquisition puts the rest of New York's free agency moves into motion. You would have to imagine that with Kidd being inked, the next move would be to sign Jeremy Lin to have the point guard position locked.
If the Knicks can get J.Kidd in a sign-and-trade, they would maintain the midlevel exception to grant to another player—ideally a shooting guard.
Jared Zwerling tweeted to his followers: "#Knicks could be in the hunt for O.J. Mayo or Randy Foye to add depth to their shooting guard position."
As stated in a previous article I wrote, Randy Foye would like to come to New York, and he would accept the midlevel exception; I personally believe he would be a great fit for the Knicks, and his price is a bargain for the type of production he is capable of.
On the other hand, O.J. Mayo is a proven shooting guard who is due for a change of scenery. However, I have not heard of there being a mutual interest between NY and Mayo.
Anticipating that the Knicks match an offer made to Lin, a starting lineup comprised of Lin, either Mayo/Foye, Anthony, Stoudemire and Chandler is certainly one capable of competing night in and night out.
If the Knicks do plan to re-sign Steve Novak and J.R. Smith, a bench consisting of those two—along with a healthy Iman Shumpert and Jason Kidd—is a solid one. However, there is clearly a need for another big man.
It will be interesting to see what route the Knicks take to fill the shooting guard position.
Who would you guys prefer to see in a Knicks uniform this upcoming season—Mayo or Foye? Or perhaps you have someone else in mind.
