Gymnastics Olympic Trials 2012 Results: Who's in and out for Team USA
The United States gymnastics team is set for the 2012 London Olympics, and it might not include who you were expecting.
First, the men (via U.S. Olympic team Twitter account):
"Presenting your 2012 men's #Olympic @USAGym team: Jonathan Horton, Sam Mikulak, Jake Dalton joining Leyva and Orozco. #TeamUSA

Now, the women (via U.S. Olympic team Twitter account):
"Presenting your 2012 @USAGym #Olympic women's team: Gabby Douglas, Jordyn Wieber, Aly Raisman, McKayla Maroney, and Kyla Ross! #TeamUSA
— US Olympic Team (@USOlympic) July 2, 2012"
Let's take a closer look at those who are going to London, as well as those who aren't.
Men's Team and Alternates
Favorites Danell Leyva and John Orozco, who constantly battled with each other, are obviously on the team after finishing first and second in qualifying. They will, without a doubt, be the States' best shot at gold in individual competitions.
Joining them are Jake Dalton from the University of Oklahoma, Jonathan Horton from Team Hilton HHonors and Sam Mikulak from the University of Michigan.
Horton finished third and Dalton tied for forth, so they aren't much of a surprise. Meanwhile, Mikulak basically guaranteed himself a spot on the team with a terrific first day of qualifying.
The alternates are Chris Brooks, Steven Legendre and Alexander Naddour, all from Team Hilton HHonors.
Brooks tied for fourth during qualifying, while Legendre and Naddour also had solid runs. No surprises here.
Women's Team and Alternates
The women's team is a little more surprising. Finishing first in qualifying and getting an automatic spot was 16-year-old Gabby Douglas. She is good, but no one expected her to beat out Jordyn Wieber, who made the team nonetheless.
That was one of the bigger upsets of qualifying so far.
Aly Raisman, who finished third, was also a logical choice.
However, McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross making the team over Alicia Sacramone will be a highly-debated decision.
Also missing from the team is the talented 22-year-old Nastia Liukin, who suffered from multiple falls during qualifying.
The alternates are Sarah Finnegan, Anna Li and Elizabeth Price.
