Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Dumping Dead Weight Must Be Gunners' Next Priority
Arsenal has done well adding goal scorers Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud this summer. Now, it's time for the team to dump a handful of disappointing players and free up some money moving forward.
Thankfully, that's exactly what it is rumored to have in the works, according to the Daily Mail:
"The club now aim to shift unwanted players, but deals to move Denilson to Sao Paulo, Carlos Vela to Real Sociedad and Sebastien Squillaci to Bastia collapsed last week. They hope to resurrect all three of the proposed transfers.
Arsenal also want to offload Andrey Arshavin, Nicklas Bendtner, Marouane Chamakh, Park Chu-young and Johan Djourou.

Good riddance.
For one, freeing up cash to pursue other transfer targets—I'm looking at you, Yann M'Vila—is necessary. For another, having the means to keep Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott around will be absolutely vital.
Plus, the Gunners need to find the necessary playing time for young studs like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere. The additions of Podolski and Giroud ensure some players will already be losing time on the pitch next year to begin with.
And honestly, which of those players would you really want to keep around?
Arshavin has never duplicated his fine international form with Russia for the Gunners. Ditto for Bendtner. Chamakh and Park Chu-young have been disappointments. And while Arsenal isn't exactly deep defensively, Djourou may be gone after not seeing much playing time this year and Squillaci won't be back.
There's a transformation happening at the Emirates, and it includes more than just inviting in the good. It also means it is time to sweep out the unhappy, underachieving and overpaid. Out with the old, in with the new and heaven help the Gunners keep RVP.
I can't wait to see the new-look Gunners next season.
