NBA Rumors: Power Ranking Brandon Roy's List of Potential Landing Spots

Brandon Roy should write a book.

How to Return From an Injury-Induced Retirement and Become the Hottest Free Agent in the NBA For Dummies.

After defying incredible odds, the 27-year old, three-time All-Star shooting guard is on more team’s wish lists than any other player in the open market.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reported that the Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers and Minnesota Timberwolves are all potential landing spots for Roy. The B-Roy bonanza kicked off this offseason when Chris Palmer of ESPN tweeted this link to Hollywood’s favorite team:

"

Someone who could help the Lakers: Brandon Roy. Based on what I'm told he could be back in the league next year.

Marcus Thompson of the Bay Area News Group also tweeted that the Lakers aren’t the only team in California interested in Roy.

"

Warriors GM said he would "absolutely" talk to Brandon Roy about signing with GSW. Roy, Myers' former client, wants to return to NBA

Now, before the entire NBA jumps on the bandwagon, here’s a power ranking of the teams reportedly interested in Roy.

6. Minnesota Timberwolves

Sorry, T-Wolves fans. The GM in me wanted to put Roy in Minnesota so badly because he’s literally exactly what they need. But with so many other contenders and the Timberwolves not playing in the ideal location (let’s get real here), they’re last on Roy’s list of landing spots.

5. Indiana Pacers

Larry Bird just won Executive of the Year, and according to Mike Wells of the Indianapolis Star, he’s leaving the Pacers. That doesn’t mean Indiana isn’t an attractive landing spot anymore—not at all—but it doesn’t help. And as talented the Pacers are, there are simply superior choices for Roy available.

4. Dallas Mavericks

Dallas would definitely rise in the rankings if they sign Deron Williams. Right now, there are simply too many question marks surrounding the Mavs. Dirk Nowitzki is the superstar that the Pacers don’t have, but with huge holes everywhere on their roster, they aren’t a top contender.

3. Los Angeles Lakers

Again, if Roy takes his time to make a decision, allowing the offseason to play out a bit, LA has a better shot at him. Like the Mavs, Los Angeles is surrounded with question marks as Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol and virtually their entire team is (potentially) on the trade block not named Kobe Bryant.

If they sort everything out, Roy would give the Lakers the second-unit scoring threat that they’re desperate for.

2. Golden State Warriors

If the Warriors press the right buttons this offseason, they’ll be the Pacers of this past season. Golden State general manager Bob Meyers is Roy’s former agent so there’s a strong link in Oakland. And if they hit the jackpot on their pair of first-round picks, they’re going to be an extremely attractive landing spot.

1. Chicago Bulls

I think Roy is patient enough to wait for Derrick Rose’s recovery because if both former Rookies of the Year are healthy, Chicago could be championship favorites. Chi-Town is stacked everywhere outside of the shooting guard position. If Roy even shows flashes of his former self, the team that finished with the best record in the league the last two years would be taken to another level.
