Tottenham News: Is Andre Villas-Boas the New Manager at White Hart Lane?

Dan TalintyreJun 17, 2012

Former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas looks set to become the new manager at White Hart Lane, after the post became vacant due to Harry Redknapp's departure at the club.

Reports have already begun to emerge that Tottenham have replaced Redknapp with Villas-Boas with Italian media outlet Gazetta dell Sport reporting that a three-year deal has been reached between the two parties.

The 34-year-old left Chelsea mid-season after struggling in the English Premier League and seemingly setting up the club for early exits in both the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup—both of which the Blues would go on to win under new manager Roberto Di Matteo.

But if the latest reports are to be believed, then Villas-Boas could be back managing in the English Premier League against his former club as soon as next season, with Tottenham acting fast to fill their vacant managerial role.

Harry Redknapp was dropped by chairman Dan Levy for failure to secure a Champions League berth, which, really, was the same thing that Villas-Boas was dropped for by Roman Abramovich—failure to deliver in Europe's highest competition.

The young manager was also touted as a potential replacement for Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool before Brendan Rodgers was confirmed as the new manager.

Whist no official word has come through regarding a deal between the two parties, there is no doubt that Spurs would benefit from a youthful manager and a manager with experience in the English Premier League with a star-studded squad.

Despite his struggles last season at Chelsea, Villas-Boas did manage to secure a domestic double and Europe League trophy with FC Porto. Tottenham will be hoping that he brings similar success to White Hart Lane.

Everton manager David Moyes and Wigan boss Roberto Martinez have also been linked as potential replacements at Spurs, but with Villas-Boas available and no doubt the best candidate for the position, Spurs should finalize the deal in the near future.

Then there's just the small problem of Gareth Bale and Luka Modric to deal with for Villas-Boas.

No rest for the weary, right?

Is Andre-Villas Boas the right man for the job at Tottenham?
