Manny Pacquiao Speaks out on Controversial Loss to Timothy Bradley

Ben ChodosJun 7, 2018

Manny Pacquiao was humble and did not blame the judges immediately after he was on the wrong side of a controversial decision, but he finally let slip his true feelings on the ruling.

When leaving a Hollywood restaurant, a TMZ reporter caught up with the fighter and asked him about his feelings on his bout with Timothy Bradley. Pacquiao responded, "That's their decision, dude ... hard to change." He then added, "I respect that decision, but WE KNOW in our hearts," via TMZ.com.

Pacquiao’s brief comments shed some light on how he will proceed forward from the terrible decision by two Nevada judges.

Pac-Man’s promoter, Bob Arum, does not believe the Filipino fighter should fight Bradley again. Arum said the following, via Ray Brewer of the Las Vegas Sun:

"

I don’t want to do a rematch. This fight was a one-sided fight. If it had been scored properly—10-2 or 9-3—who would be asking for a rematch? Nobody. Just because these officials screwed up, that doesn’t justify a rematch.

"

Pacquiao, however, seemed completely open to another fight with Bradley and said “That makes me I think I have to become a warrior in the right for this rematch. In the rematch, my thinking is I don’t want to finish the whole 12 rounds,” in the same article by Brewer.

Brewer goes on to suggest that Arum would rather have Pacquiao face an opponent that would provide him with more of a challenge. The obvious choice would be Floyd Mayweather Jr., but if that cannot happen, a fourth fight against Juan Manuel Marquez would be another viable option.

Pac-Man’s recent quote suggesting that the judges’ decision was wrong may hint that Arum is swaying the fighter over to his view of the situation.

If Pacquiao is willing to admit that he was the unquestioned winner of the fight, then why fight Bradley again? Boxing columnists, commentators and experts agree almost universally that Pacquiao should have been awarded a victory.

The best decision that Pacquiao can make is to put this unfortunate incident behind him, and fight a more worthy opponent. Beating a fighter like Mayweather or Marquez would be a more powerful statement than dominating Bradley again.

He needs to move on with his career and go up against the biggest names in boxing.
