No Way Out But For The Champions: A No Way Out Preview

JFeb 9, 2009

Come Sunday the elimination chambers return to No Way Out, but unlike last year they are both for the world titles. The road to Wrestlemania 25 is well underway, but who will be leaving No Way Out as champion, and what turns in the road can we expect next?

You would expect whoever walks away as champion will be fighting for the title at Wrestlemania, so who honestly stands a chance?

The RAW elimination chamber is currently set to feature Kane, Rey Mysterio, John Cena, Mike Knox, Kofi Kingston, and Chris Jericho, and honestly I can’t see anyone taking the title from John Cena.

Kofi Kingston and Mike Knox just aren’t the standard yet to be World Heavyweight Champion, especially so close to Wrestlemania, so I think they can be counted out.

Chris Jericho seems set to begin a rivalry with Ric Flair, possibly building up to a match at Wrestlemania. Unless the creative team plan to make that the World Heavyweight Championship match it seems pretty unlikely the Jericho will walk away the champion.

Although Rey Mysterio and Kane have both been world champions in the past, their current track record doesn’t suggest that either will be in for a title run.

That only leaves John Cena, and although his wrestling has been criticized by most of the online community, the WWE values him as one of their most important assets. Since Wrestlemania 21, John Cena has been in a world title match at every Wrestlemania, and I can’t see him stopping now.

The SmackDown! elimination chamber is slightly more complicated. Most of the participants could take the title at No Way Out and it wouldn’t be a surprise.

The superstars set to participate are The Undertaker, Triple H, Edge, Vladimir Kozlov, The Big Show and Jeff Hardy.

In the past three pay per views the WWE title has switched hands, so will the trend continue or will Edge retain?

For a match that supposedly gives the champion one in six odds of retaining, the chance that both champions will retain should be pretty slim (one in thirty six to be precise). The WWE knows this so usually makes one of the champions drop the title in this kind of situation (for example Unforgiven 2008 with the scramble matches), but does that give any implication toward who will take the title?

This one is a lot harder to call than RAW’s so it think the best way to pick a winner is to start by saying who I don’t think will win.

Considering the Undertaker never seems to lose at Wrestlemania and he has been in the past two World Heavyweight Championship matches at Wrestlemania I think he will sit it out this year. There has been talk of a possible match with Shawn Michaels which could still be a possibility, but either way I don’t think the Deadman will pick up his seventh world championship.

A lot of people have been pleading for Jeff Hardy to win back the WWE Championship, but with his storyline with Matt seemingly building up to at match at Wrestlemania I just don’t think he will take the title.

Vladimir Kozlov is seemingly on the edge of a world title push, but for the WWE to put a title match in his hands at Wrestlemania seems a step too far. He will get there soon in my opinion but not just yet.

Of the three left I think the Big Show stands the least chance of becoming champion. Not for any particular reason, I just can’t see it happening.

To pick between HHH and Edge is a hard decision (assuming it is between these two), but assuming John Cena retains I am going by my theory that both champions will not retain and say HHH will win the title.

A lot of people may see this as a controversial decision and I’m not too sure about it myself, but hey, it’s Wrestlemania soon, anything can happen.

Who do you think will walk away from No Way Out as Champion?
