The Main Event
For those that missed it, the actual main event fight between Pacquiao and Bradley was full of action and exactly what boxing fans wanted. The real wildness started after the 12th and final bell rang, though.
After landing straight lefts at will throughout the fight, Manny admittedly conceded the last few rounds to the undefeated challenger. While Bradley stole some points late, there was no way that Pacquiao could lose that fight on the cards.
Then the scorecards came in and the world stopped.
Not only did the judges award a split decision win for Bradley, they took away boxing’s final hope at being relevant again by squashing the possible super fight between Manny and Floyd Mayweather.
Jorge Arce Has an Ear Ache
While this brawl was expected to be a serious contender for fight of the night, an unintentional foul and a blow to the ear of Jorge Arce from Jesus Rojas ended it via no contest just nine seconds into the second round.
As disappointing as it was to watch the fight end this way, it could be setting up for a serious undercard match when Pac-Man and Bradley go at it again in the fall.
Rojas came out and called Arce a coward for stopping the fight (via translator), which is sure to upset the journeyman veteran. With a war of words sure to rage, this could be an undercard match that fans will go out of their way to see.
Guillermo Rigondeaux is the Real Deal
While many causal boxing fans didn’t know who Guillermo Rigondeaux was before Saturday night, the way he used and abused Teon Kennedy has many experts buying in hook, line and sinker.
After an illustrious amateur career in Cuba that saw him win several gold medals, including two Olympic championships as well, he defected to the United States.
The undefeated fighter's pro career is turning into something that could be special with a few more elite brawls.
For as much as Kennedy came into this fight known for his toughness, Rigondeaux broke him down quickly and stamped his place as a legitimate up-and-comer.
