World Cup 2026 Group Standings, Schedule After Friday's Results Ahead of KO Bracket

Round robin play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup continued on Friday with Group C and D teams taking part in their second matches.

Paraguay 1, Turkey 0

Paraguay essentially went wire-to-wire with a 1-0 win over Turkey in the final game on Friday's schedule.

Matías Galarza provided all the scoring that Paraguay would need when he found the back of the net 65 seconds into the match, marking the fastest goal in the World Cup thus far.

The Paraguay squad was able to hold on for the win despite playing shorthanded for the entire second half. Miguel Almirón received a red card in the third minute of added time in the first half for covering his mouth while speaking during a verbal altercation with members of the Turkish team.

It was a historic moment for Almirón, though certainly not one he will want to remember. The International Football Association Board announced a new rule in April that players who cover their mouth in confrontational situations on the pitch are subject to a red card.

Almirón will also miss Paraguay's group stage finale against Australia on Thursday. The Athletic's Luke Bosher added that FIFA's disciplinary committee could potentially extend his suspension.

Turkey dominated on offense in every category except the one that matters. It had possession 78 percent of the match and a 5-2 edge in shots on goal, but it was unable to capitalize on those looks.

This marks the second consecutive shutout loss for Turkey to open the World Cup after a 2-0 loss to Australia on June 13.

Paraguay's victory ensured the U.S. will win Group D and it sets up a huge showdown with Australia to determine the second team that will go forward.

United States 2, Australia 0

The United States has qualified for the knockout stage after defeating Australia 2-0 in Seattle.

The Americans went into this match missing star Christian Pulisic, who was out with a calf injury. Ricardo Pepi started in his place.

The United States persevered, though, and took a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute after Cameron Burgess' own goal.

Striker Folarin Balogun made a great run down the left side and fired a cross. Burgess attempted to clear, but it went into the back of the net. It was a great effort from the Americans, who turned up the pressure early and never looked back.

The United States later went up 2-0 after Alex Freeman headed the ball into the net in the 43rd minute. The play was initially ruled offside, but after VAR review, it was deemed Freeman just stayed onside before the goal.

On a set piece, Antonee Robinson found Sergiño Dest, who fired a shot outside the box, but it was blocked. However, Freeman tracked the ball perfectly and then headed it in.

For the match, the United States possessed the ball 62.1 percent of the time and had 10 shot attempts to Australia's five. Goalkeeper Matt Freese got the clean sheet and made two saves.

The United States is moving on but still has one more group play match on Thursday, June 25 at 10 p.m. ET in Los Angeles. Australia will close Group D on the same day and time against Paraguay in Santa Clara, California.

Morocco 1, Scotland 0

Morocco wasted no time getting on the board, as Ismael Saibari took a pass down the right side from Brahim Díaz before scoring in the second minute.

It represented the fastest goal of the 2026 World Cup so far, though that record only lasted a few hours until Galarza beat it for Paraguay.

Saibari had another opportunity to score in the 10th minute, but wasn't able to get to a pass across the goal from Azzedine Ounahi.

Still, Morocco continued to attack throughout the first half as Scotland struggled to consistently maintain possession.

Early in the second half, Scotland's John McGinn collided with Neil El Aynaoui and fell near the Morocco net. No penalty was given following VAR review, though.

Scotland attempted to apply pressure on Morocco's defense during the second half of the match, but ultimately remained scoreless in the 1-0 defeat.

Scotland didn't finish with a single shot on target, as Morocco moved into the No. 1 spot in the Group C standings.

Brazil 3, Haiti 0

Following a disappointing performance in a draw against Morocco to open the World Cup, Brazil bounced back against Haiti on Friday.

Matheus Cunha replaced Igor Thiago as a starter and immediately stepped up, tapping in a rebound for a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute.

Cunha wasn't finished, as a stunning finish with his left foot into the upper left corner gave Brazil a 2-0 advantage shortly afterwards.

Just before the end of the first half, Vinícius Júnior scored in a one-on-one situation with Haiti goalkeeper Johny Placide.

Haiti was prevented from scoring throughout the entire second half to seal the 3-0 result, as Brazil goalkeeper Álisson Becker picked up three saves.

Brazil will close out the group stage with a match against Scotland, while Haiti's final match of the group stage is against Morocco. Both contests will take place on Wednesday.
