Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley Results: Why Pac-Man Won't Recover from Loss

Patrick ClarkeJun 10, 2012

Manny Pacquiao won't recover from his controversial loss to Timothy Bradley Jr. Saturday night in Las Vegas, Nev.

Bradley escaped MGM Grand with a split-decision victory after being schooled by Pacquiao for most of the fight. In the end, though, two of the three judges gave the fight to the American, scoring it 115-113 in favor of the undefeated Bradley.

Unfortunately for both Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr., however, the loss doesn't only cost Pac-Man his WBO welterweight title belt, but both him and Mayweather a ton of money that could potentially have come out of a super fight.

Pacquiao's first loss in seven years deflated the mega-fight balloon and instead signals the end of including Manny Pacquiao in the discussion of best pound-for-pound fighters out there.

Pacquiao will be 34 this December, and he has looked a little off in his previous two fights. Back in November 2011, he narrowly avoided an upset bid by Juan Manuel Marquez, and Saturday night the judges decided that Bradley was somehow more active inside the ring.

Even if Pacquiao proves to be the better boxer in an inevitable rematch with Bradley next fall, his mystique is now damaged, one that took more than seven years to build.

Saturday night's result was a setback for Pac-Man and for the sport of boxing.

Even if Pacquiao bounces back inside the ring, his career will never be the same. We won't look at him the same. He is perceived as beatable now, thanks to Bradley and the judges.
