Pacquiao vs. Bradley Results: Pac-Man's Loss Is Retribution for Marquez Decision
Manny Pacquiao's controversial split-decision loss to Timothy Bradley Jr. on Saturday night was nothing more than retribution for his narrow escape against Juan Manuel Marquez last November via a majority decision.
Many of those ringside for Pacquiao's bout with Marquez last fall thought that the Mexican Marquez had out-boxed the Pac-Man and was unfairly defeated at the hands of the judges.
Fast forward nearly seven months and Pacquiao is on the other side of a similar decision. Karma?
You bet.
On Saturday night, two of the three judges scored it 115-113 in favor of Bradley, while the other had Pacquiao winning 115-113.
The result sent shock waves through the boxing world that are still being felt, as some like myself are wondering if Pacquiao's loss was payback for the Marquez controversy.
Still, though, the argument can be made that Pacquiao out-punched Marquez last fall while Bradley did not out-punch Pacquiao on Saturday night. Pacquiao landed nearly 100 more punches on Bradley, including 82 more power strikes.
Pac-Man's majority decision victory over Marquez certainly left a lot to be desired, but his loss to Bradley was outright stunning and made absolutely no sense.
Pacquiao was disrespected as the reigning WBO welterweight champion on Saturday night. With little reason for anyone to believe Bradley was the better fighter inside the ring, one can only suggest that Pacquiao's controversial defeat was retribution for his previous fight with Marquez.
