Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Dream Fight Loses Steam After Bradley Sinks Pac-Man
Manny Pacquiao's controversial loss to Timothy Bradley brings many vivid descriptions to mind. None of those include Floyd Mayweather Jr. sharing a ring with Pac-Man.
Instead of waiting for Mayweather, Pacquiao would be better suited to walk away from boxing. Or, if he sticks around, Pacquiao must demand a rematch with Bradley before moving on.
Whether you agree with tonight's decision or not, a loss is a loss. Many argued Pac-Man couldn't handle Mayweather even without seeing tonight's disappointment.
How are we supposed to feel now?
Pacquiao's loss was unavoidable. That's a valid argument. If you fight as well as he did, and lose, something is going on.
But any loss kills momentum. Pacquiao will need every ounce of available momentum if he hopes to test "Pretty Boy" Floyd in a future contest.
Before this fight, Mayweather versus Pacquiao was the first thing on every boxing fans' mind. Now, fans will dwell on Pacquiao's bizarre loss and the minor blemish it leaves on his stellar career record.
That fact by itself puts a major damper on a future clash with boxing's biggest personality. The match has a bitter taste to it now.
These two are still the world's best pound-for-pound competitors boxing has to offer, but things were already growing stale.
Pacquiao's loss to Bradley, in tandem with Mayweather's freshly started jail sentence, only adds to the acrid taste of this dwindling possibility.
Don't completely rule out the future of this fight, but doesn't it just feel like old news?
