AFC South Friday Tweetbag: Ochocinco? Oh No No.

Nate DunlevyJun 6, 2018

Welcome to the Friday Tweetbag! As always, you can tweet, email or send your questions to me in the comments section of the articles. Be sure to use the hashtag #tweetbag!

Q:

A: Chad "Johnson", as I like to call him, does not fit in Indy. He does not fit in Jacksonville. He does not fit in Houston. According to odds issued by Bovada.com, the Texans and Jaguars are among the favorites.

As badly as the Texans and Colts need receiving help, no one who saw Ochocinco play last year could possible think he'd be a fit with anyone. Once upon a time, he was a gifted athlete who could use his ability to get open. Now, he's just an old, slow guy who can't run a route to save his life.

He played in 15 games and caught just 15 passes. He was a below league average player. The Colts wouldn't want him because you don't want to put an erratic route runner with a rookie quarterback. The Jaguars don't need the headaches right now.

The only team in the division with a reason to sign him would be the receiving-starved Texans, but what could they hope to get out of him? He's 34 years old. He played in a great offense with a great quarterback and caught 15 passes.

He's done being a productive NFL player, and he's not worth the ink it would take to sign him.

Q:

A: The Colts need/want Tom Zbikowski to win the job at safety, but it's going to mean a big jump forward for him. There's not much camp competition in the way of experienced players, so you have to figure he has the inside track.

The corner battle will be interesting as well. The Colts need to identify at least four viable corners, because Jerraud Powers has yet to show he can stay healthy for any extended period of time.

There are Colts fans deluded into thinking the team can win eight or nine games; it's not going to happen. They just don't have any talent at all at the corner position.

Gun to my head, I'll say that Thomas and Vaughn win the second and third jobs. Thomas played like a rookie last year, and I think he'll take a big jump forward.

No matter how you slice it, however, this is one of the worst secondaries in football.

Q:

A: I think they would love to deal Freeney, and if someone offered fifth-round pick for him right now, they'd take it in a heartbeat.

The only question surrounding Freeney is if they can get anything for him. If they can't, they may let him play out his contract. Though I don't believe they will or that it makes any sense at all to let him.

I don't think the Colts suffer from the same delusions their fans do. The front office knows this is going to be a long process, and they are clearly setting up for a big run in 2013.

Freeney doesn't fit those plans.

Q:

A: Defense is highly variable from year to year, and I'm not even going to try and predict anything for three years down the road in the NFL, player-wise.

The best coach in the division is another question. I consider Chuck Pagano a giant unknown and fear he's too conservative. I'm no great fan of Kubiak. I love Mularkey, but think he's under a lot of pressure.

That leaves Mike Munchak as my choice, and I'm more than okay with it. I love the way the Titans have retooled the offense. I think he had good results with a mediocre team last year, and think he's on his way to being a top-10 coach.

Q:

A: I'm not well versed enough in the Rams' defense to comment intelligently about their scheme. Watching Saint Louis games wasn't much on my agenda last year.

Don't read too much into Indy signing Justin King. He's not a very good corner, but as I said earlier, the Colts corners aren't a talented group.

The fact that Indy signed King tells you everything you need to know about the kind of depth they have to work with.
