Pacquiao vs. Bradley Fight Time: Bout Won't Live Up to Insane Hype

Sam R. QuinnJun 7, 2018

The fight between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy "Desert Storm" Bradley, scheduled to start on June 9, at 9 p.m. ET, won't be anywhere near as exciting as the media has led fans to believe it will be.

Bradley is a good fighter, winning the first 28 professional fights of his career, but they've been against largely unproven opponents. The biggest wins of his career came against Lamont Peterson and Devon Alexander. He won via unanimous decision over Peterson, but was awarded a technical decision over Alexander after a Bradley head butt left him unable to continue in the 10th round.

It's no secret that those two wins, the most impressive of Bradley's career, pale in comparison to the victims that Pacquiao has destroyed en route to a 54-3-2 record.

So, where do we get off thinking that he's going to give Pacquiao—one of the greatest boxers of our generation—a run for his money in the ring at the MGM Grand? Pacquiao, along with Floyd Mayweather, is the greatest fighter of the decade and it's preposterous to believe that Bradley is going to square off with Pacquiao and come away with a win.

Pac-Man is too technically sound to fall victim to Bradley's tricks. "Desert Storm" has a tendency to turn the fight into a brawl, relentlessly pursuing his opponent and throwing punches at the same time. When he employs this strategy, his footwork falls out of place and he is often left open for counterpunches.

Pacquiao is adept at timing his opponents as they come forward. When Pacquiao fought Ricky Hatton in 2009, Hatton tried to use the same strategy that Bradley has used in previous fights. He came forward at Manny, trying to pressure him into making mistakes, but he got too close and paid the price. Say what you want about Hatton, but he was a better boxer when he fought Pacquiao than Bradley is right now.

Bradley is nowhere near as fast as Pacquiao. Pac-Man has some of the fastest hands we've ever seen in boxing. That speed, coupled with the precision and timing in which he throws his punches, it seems as though Bradley is in for a rude awakening this Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao has much more power than Bradley. There's no way to logically discern that Bradley has a reasonable chance against against a fighter who is faster and more powerful than he is.

The experience factor can't be underestimated either. Pacquiao is battle-hardened and his experience gives him a huge advantage over Bradley. He's seen so many different types of fights over the course of his career and Bradley is just another means to an end for Pacquiao (whatever that end may be).

No matter what the media says, no matter what they try to get the boxing community to believe, this fight is going to be a shell of what it has been cracked up to be.
