Manny Pacquiao vs Timothy Bradley: Celebrities Weigh In On Gambling Odds
Perhaps boxing may not be as popular as if once was, but there is no question that the nation is abuzz when a big fight is on the horizon.
That is the case currently as Manny "Pac-Man" Pacquiao will take on Timothy "Desert Storm" Bradley on Saturday in one of the most highly-anticipated bouts of the year.
Pacquiao is currently installed as a heavy money-line favorite at -450, while Bradley is the underdog at +325, according to Bovada. Several fellow boxers and others in the public eye have weighed in on how they believe the fight will go down. While there is obviously a lot of support for Pacquiao, Bradley has been getting some love as well.
Here is a breakdown of how some boxers and celebrities view the Pacquiao vs. Bradley tilt and how they would bet if they decided to put some of their ample fortune on the line.
Juan Manuel Marquez
Pacquiao enters Saturday's fight coming off an unconvincing victory over Marquez. Dinamita has always been a thorn in Manny's side, as he has narrowly beaten him twice and fought to a draw on another occasion.
Marquez and many others believed that he was the true winner in their latest bout, but Pacquiao escaped with a majority-decision triumph. Despite Marquez's handling of Pacquiao, he expects Pac-Man to take down Bradley.
According to Osman Rodriguez of BoxingScene.com, Marquez is preparing for a possible fourth fight against Pacquiao. While that is his main focus, he didn't mind giving his opinion about his rival's next battle.
"Tim Bradley will be a tough fight for Pacquiao, but Manny is the better fighter. Bradley is very physical but Manny will win.
"
Marquez has never faced Bradley, but he is extremely familiar with Pacquiao. If any other fighter should be trusted with regards to their feelings on Pacquiao, it is Marquez, so fans should probably feel pretty good about Pac-Man's chances.
Amir Khan
Junior Welterweight star Amir Khan is considered one of the best young fighters in boxing, and is also very well respected for his analysis regarding his peers. Khan often trains with Pacquiao and had a potential fight with Bradley lined up at one point, so he has no shortage of opinions on either boxer and how their bout will play out.
According to Luis Sandoval of BoxingScene.com, Khan believes that Pac-Man will have little trouble disposing of Desert Storm. Pacquiao is considered by most to be the quicker and more powerful boxer, and Khan expects him to use that to his advantage in a knockout victory.
"I give the fight to Pacquiao by knockout. Maybe mid rounds. Manny will start finding his openings and start hurting him towards the mid rounds and put pressure on him. I don’t think Bradley’s fought anyone of [Pacquiao’s] caliber or as strong as him. Especially at 147 where Bradley has had maybe one or two fights at the weight division
"
Khan makes a good point regarding Bradley's resume as his toughest test thus far has been Lamont Peterson. Pac-Man is in an entirely different league than what Bradley is used to, and that could be a factor.
Dana White
UFC president Dana White is obviously very passionate about mixed martial arts, but he is never shy when it comes to weighing in on a big boxing match. White is often asked for his pick by the media and he always gives solid analysis. That was the case once again in a video interview with FightHubTV as posted by Mark Wayne of FightLine.com.
"Pacquiao has speed, power, everything else. Bradley's a tough kid, man. This is a tougher fight than people think it is, White said. God, that's a tough one to break down. Bradley's tough man, but I think Manny's gonna out-speed him. I think he's gonna out-speed and out-power him, might even stop him.
"
It's clear that White is a fan of both fighters, but he subscribes to the theory that Pacquiao is a world-class boxer whose tools will be too much for Bradley to overcome. White stopped short of predicting a knockout, but he did mention it as a possibility. White is clearly still an avid follower of the sport, so it's tough not to take his prediction into account.
Shane Mosley
After losing to youngster Saul "Canelo" Alvarez last month, future Hall-of-Fame boxer "Sugar" Shane Mosley decided to hang up the gloves. Mosley had a fantastic career as he finished 46-8-1 and won titles across three different weight divisions.
The second-to-last fight of Mosley's career was a unanimous-decision loss to Pacquiao, so "Sugar" had plenty to say about Pac-Man's fight on Saturday.
According to Chris Williams of BoxingNews24.com, Mosley is one of the few who is picking Bradley to come out on top. Mosley's selection is somewhat surprising since he has been in the ring with Pacquiao and lost to him, but Mosley likes what he sees in the younger fighter.
"He [Bradley] wins on points…Bradley has the look in his eyes like ‘you’re not going to beat me.’ Pacquiao has a different attitude, but his [Pacquiao] sparring sessions have not been as good, and he’s looking a little older and he doesn’t seem as hungry.
"
Seeing as Mosley is a retired veteran fighter who was essentially forced out by a much younger competitor, maybe he is convinced that boxing is a young man's sport. Whatever the case, Mosley has seen it all, so you have to believe that he knows what he's talking about.
