College Football: How Georgia's OC Mike Bobo Can Win Over All of Bulldog Nation
The Georgia offense has not been bad over the last few years, but the members of Bulldog Nation know it could be a lot better.
If the offense does sputter, Mark Richt gets some of the blame, but the one man who will get the majority of the blame is former UGA quarterback and current offensive coordinator Mike Bobo.
A lot of fans don't like his vanilla play-calling. Others don't like the fact that quarterback Aaron Murray doesn't call his own plays.
Despite the Bulldogs winning 10 games last year and the offense being ranked in the top four in the SEC in scoring and total offense last year, the fans are not happy with Bobo.
So here are a few ways that Bobo can win over Bulldog Nation—if that's even possible.
Open the Playbook
1 of 5Georgia's offense can be predictable at times. They want to run the ball, run the ball and run the ball some more to begin the game.
That's fine, but they need to mix things up at the start of the game in order the get their opponents on their toes.
The Bulldogs start the season with a game against Buffalo. That game should be a great opportunity for Bobo to try some new things and let Murray air it out.
The running game is essential to the Bulldogs offense, but there is nothing wrong with starting the game with some deep passes to get the Bulldog Nation going.
Get More Input from Richt
2 of 5When Mark Richt started at UGA, he was calling the plays. That worked in 2002, as the Bulldogs won 13 games and were one win away from a shot at the national title.
Richt is known for his play-calling, and Bobo should get more input from Richt on game days if he isn't already.
This is not to say that Richt should fully take over, but if both parties collaborate they may come up with some very interesting plays to really get the offense moving.
Let Aaron Murray Call Plays
3 of 5This may not go with the offensive philosophy, but Aaron Murray should have a chance to call his own plays.
The fans always see Murray going to the sidelines before the snap to get the call. Based on his work ethic and his experience, Murray should be able to read the defense and call a play on his own.
Murray has a better feel for what's going on, so if he can call or change a play at the line of scrimmage it will make Bobo's life a lot easier, and the fans will appreciate him for the change.
Is Bobo the Right Guy?
4 of 5That is a question that has been asked since he was hired as offensive coordinator six years ago.
During his career at Georgia, Bobo has worked with David Greene, D.J. Shockley, Matthew Stafford and now Murray. So Bobo is a very solid quarterback coach who knows how to develop young signal callers.
But is he the guy that should be responsible for the entire offense? As mentioned earlier, he has done a solid job of doing just enough in order to get wins.
The expectations for the Bulldogs are very high for this season, and just enough on offense will probably not lead to a SEC title in December.
What If Things Don't Get Better?
5 of 5If things don't improve, and the team fails to live up to expectations, the Bulldog Nation will let the team hear about it.
If the team does not reach the SEC championship this year because their offense struggled all season, then some changes will have to be made.
Fans will want to see Bobo gone if things don't improve.
Will that happen? Probably not, because he does work well with the quarterbacks and he knows how to bring in top-notch talent.
I think that if the offense does not live up to expectations, Bobo will likely not call all the plays next year, and that Richt will be more involved in play-calling.
Let's hope that Bobo can get the offense rolling, because that is the only way that he will win over the fans.
