NBA Draft 2012: Bradley Beal and Top Shooting Guards Available
Although big man Anthony Davis is dominating much of the pre-draft discussion, the 2012 NBA Draft class is absolutely loaded with talented shooting guards.
From elite athletes to long-range snipers to guys who can do a little bit of everything, this is the perfect year for your favorite team to find a long-term solution at the 2-guard.
With so many quality shooting guards, it's tough to rank them. That said, I think these are unquestionably the three best 2-guards available.
Bradley Beal — Florida
Beal is definitely the best in a deep pool of shooting guards.
He's slightly undersized at 6'3", but with his strength, leaping ability and gorgeous shooting stroke, I doubt that will be much of an issue.
Beal can get to the bucket whenever he wants, and he's a sniper from the mid-range. He only shot 33.9 percent on three-pointers last season, but when he's no longer the main target of the defense, that number should improve.
The Charlotte Bobcats and Washington Wizards should each consider Beal with their picks. If they pass on him, there's no way he falls past Cleveland at No. 4.
Jeremy Lamb — UConn
To put it simply, Lamb is basically a really long-armed Richard Hamilton.
He's a smooth scorer who excels coming off screens and moving without the ball. With his length, he can get his shot off over bigger defenders and disrupt passing angles defensively.
I'd like to see him get to the free-throw line more (just 3.6 attempts per game), but you can live with him hanging around the mid-range if he's going to shoot 47.8 percent from the field like he did last season.
If he adds a little muscle, Lamb could be an offensive force in the NBA. I think the Portland Trail Blazers would be a perfect fit at No. 6.
Terrence Ross — Washington
I expect Ross's stock to rise after workouts, as teams should fall in love with his insane athleticism and smooth stroke.
The Washington product has already mastered the art of moving without the ball, and as you can see above, he's an excellent finisher at the rim. His height (6'6") will also make him more appealing than the likes of Austin Rivers and Dion Waiters.
In the right situation, Ross could end up being the best 2-guard from this class. The Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76ers are all potential suitors in the middle of the first round.
