Alabama Football Recruiting: Should Derrick Henry Ride the Tide or Stick to UGA?

Michael FelderJun 4, 2018

We kick off your Monday with a little recruiting. Derrick Henry committed to Georgia a long time ago. Long time as in over a year ago. However, the 5-star running back is listening to overtures from Nick Saban and if you're a Bulldog fan that can't make you happy. Henry is set up to play running back for the Dawgs, joining Isaiah Crowell and Keith Marshall in the backfield, if he holds true to the early commitment.

At Alabama Henry would be moved to the defensive side of the football, to grow into a linebacker for the Crimson Tide. Mark Barron, one of Nick Saban's most recent success stories, went to Alabama to play defense after a big-time high school running back career. That move, by Barron, paid dividends as he just got drafted at the safety position. On the larger scale, DeAnthony Thomas, at Oregon, decided to go to Eugene to play offense instead of sticking with USC, where they wanted him to play cornerback.

There is merit to both sides and Barrett Sallee, of the SEC Blog fame, debates this very topic with me. Barrett explains why Henry should stick to the Bulldogs and I entertain the idea of at least listening to Nick Saban. He is a three-time national champion head coach after all. Enjoy!
