Tiger Woods Threatens to Destroy Competition at 2012 Memorial Tournament
If you are one of the folks who think Tiger Woods is finished as a dominating presence on the PGA Tour, you may want to take a look at what's happening at the 2012 Memorial Tournament. Woods is back, and he is threatening to annihilate the field this weekend.
Woods is on the cusp of returning to the same kind of championship form that he used to dominate the tour back between 1999 and 2009.
He is hitting fairways this week, which should make everyone in the field crap their pants just a little bit. His distance-control with his irons is starting to get scary good, and his putter has suddenly come to life.
Wait, that means he is starting to develop his entire repertoire, doesn't it?
Uh, oh.
I wrote a post a few weeks ago saying that it was only a matter of time before Woods started playing like himself again. The article was met with some resistance, as many people have become convinced Woods' career has already seen its best days.
The last two-and-a-half years haven't been kind to him, though his downfall was partly his own fault. His personal life got in the way of his career and his body started to fail him, as well.
Then, Woods won the Arnold Palmer Invitational a week before the Masters, only to then fall on his face again the next few outings. The naysayers continued to say he was finished.
Through six holes in Woods' second round at the Memorial, he's three under par and is tied for the lead at minus-five. His play thus far today has been a mixture of brilliance and near-misses, but the fact of the matter is that his game is on the precipice of becoming dominant once more.
Woods is going to end up winning a few more tournaments this year, and it starts with this week's tournament at the Memorial at the Muirfield Village GC in Dublin, Ohio.
Don't say I didn't warn you.
