Big Ten Football Morning Coffee: Michigan and Rich Rodriguez Will Not Lock Horns
Rise and shine, friends. Here's what's going down in the Big Ten today.
-- Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez made some comments when he was hired about maybe just maybe playing Michigan once or twice again for old time's sake. However, per Nick Baumgardner of AnnArbor.com, Michigan AD Dave Brandon went on a radio show today and killed that idea dead when asked by the hosts. "False," Brandon said. "We have other teams we want to play." So that's that.
-- Michigan fans: How would you feel if someone said the following about Denard Robinson? "I feel like he hasn't grown. For him to be the quarterback at the University of Michigan, I feel like he has to grow up a lot and be a lot more accountable." Sounds harsh and unfair, right?
Well, you can turn all the he's to I's (and, you know, fix the rest of the grammar accordingly). Per Mark Schlabach of ESPN.com, that's Robinson's own self-assessment from last week's Navy SEALs leadership camp that the Michigan seniors attended. How Robinson turns those sentiments into action will be crucial, of course, but rest assured that he wants more from his career than this.
-- Ohio State defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins gets the profile treatment from Adam Rittenberg at ESPN.com. Between the preseason All-American nod from Phil Steele and the high draft stock from Mel Kiper Jr., it's clear that expectations are through the roof for "Big Hank." Hank is a great name. The world needs more Henrys and Hanks. I know it's a play on Hankins' last name, but my point stands.
-- As Tom Mulhern of the Wisconsin State Journal reports, Danny O'Brien has graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in business administration. He's now set to join the Wisconsin Badgers for the start of summer workouts on Monday. O'Brien let it slip that he threw up a Wisconsin "W" hand signal at his graduation and sent it to Bret Bielema, but nobody else. Smart man.
