Lori Anne Madison Is 6-Year-Old Spelling Bee Superstar
Remember the name Lori Anne Madison because she is about to dominate the world...of spelling.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee has started, and the whittling down of the best spellers under age 15 has commenced.
Madison, however, is younger than them all. At six years old, she commands the attention of all in the auditorium and is certain to be the darling for the rest of the week.
She now treads into the lofty company of performers that dominated well before the usual age.
She might be the LeBron James of spelling or the Kobe Bryant of reciting. OMG, I hope she isn't the Kwame Brown of national spelling bees.
The Washington Post reports on how she managed to steal the show on Wednesday. She walked to the mic as speller 269 and left as the week's star.
"Lori Anne is speller 269 during the Scripps National Spelling Bee...She’s the youngest ever to compete in the bee – but it didn’t seem that way Wednesday.
She asked for the definition of the word. Then she rapidly spelled “dirigible.” She got it right and quickly took her seat.
"
The Daily Mail has more information on this captivating youngster whose name will inch closer to going viral with every correctly spelled word.
"Some kids are ahead of the curve physically, mentally or socially from a very young age. Lori Anne is the rare exception who defies the norms in every category.
She hit all her milestones early, walking and talking well before others in her play group. She was reading before she was two.
She swims four times a week, keeping pace with ten-year-old boys, and wants to be in the Olympics.
"
The spelling bee will commence once again on Thursday with the semifinals and finals. The marathon session of spelling can be seen on ESPN and ESPN2. More information can be found at the official site.
Let me go ahead and print what we are all thinking: All of these kids are amazing.
If you have never seen the Scripps National Spelling Bee, I recommend catching at least a few minutes. The pressure and personality from each overachiever is awesome.
Of course, you can always cap off some hilarious quips while you watch, a la the Sklars.
Little Lori Anne Madison is calling shots and taking names, dominating the world of spelling and life in general, really.
