The 20 Best "Beast Mode" Moments in Sports

Gabe ZaldivarJun 7, 2018

Beast Mode is the act of defying everything we know about human dynamics and the laws of physics, and here are the best of those moments.

Ever since Marshawn Lynch dispatched Saints players like they were Skittles, we have been referring to amazing feats of strength as going "Beast Mode".

It's high time we collect them all in one place and see if the Internet melts from the awesome.

Of course, this is an ever-growing debate. I am giddy to see what grand moments lay ahead for us sports enthusiasts.

If we managed to exclude some of your favorite moments, include them below. Anytime an athlete goes Beast Mode, it must be noted and shared with the masses.

These moments are just too awesome to remain hidden.

20. LeBron James with No Regard for Human Life

1 of 20

I'm not sure of who goes more Beast Mode in this video, LeBron James dunking over Kevin Garnett or Kevin Harlan with the call.

I say it's a glorious tie, but I would love to hear what you think.

19. Greg Jones

2 of 20

Beast Mode can be defeated—it just take an inordinate amount of men.

Here is Florida State's Greg Jones running upfield and laying out North Carolina's Dexter Reid. At least Reid slowed him enough for more Tar Heels to get to the scene of the crime.

18. Lionel Messi Being Lionel Messi

3 of 20

Those who say that there is far too much flopping in soccer should watch Lionel Messi, because he makes up for every last dive.

The man never goes down.

This may be a tad general, but it deserves a place here because Messi is never not in Beast Mode.

17. Jonathan Stewart Body Slam

4 of 20

I'm not sure exactly which game this is, but the man being taken to the ground by one of Jonathan Stewart's arms is Ronde Barber.

That is pretty much the manliest way you request someone to take a seat.

16. LaVar Arrington

5 of 20

Before LaVar Arrignton became a Pro Bowl linebacker for the Washington Redskins, he was busy lighting up quarterbacks and running backs for Penn State.

Here is a remarkable LaVar Leap against Illinois. Offensive line in the way? No bother, Arrington will just leap over them.

15. Blake Griffin

6 of 20

So we had to include Blake Griffin and his ability to go into Beast Mode just enough to defy gravity and any seven-footer near by.

Timofey Mozgov is in the clear for now, because we decided to clown Pau Gasol for this particular example.

14. Adrian Peterson vs. Cleveland Browns

7 of 20

It doesn't get much better than a run from Adrian Peterson, and this is one of the more classic touchdown drives from the last few years.

The Cleveland Browns didn't know what hit them. The best part is watching him just throw a Browns defender to the ground.

Ouch.

13. Ventrell Jenkins

8 of 20

This is just ridiculous.

Kentucky's Ventrell Jenkins fields a fumble in the 2009 Liberty Bowl against East Carolina and is subsequently off to the races.

He scores, but not before giving a devastating stiff arm.

12. Tendai "The Beast" Mtawarira

9 of 20

Tendai Mtawarira was already referred to as "The Beast" prior to this amazing show of strength.

Last Angry Fan breaks down this moment wherein The Beast lifts teammate Anton Bresler over his head for a catch.

If you thought this was ridiculous, check out his tribute video

11. Garrison Hearst

10 of 20

I am not sure which is better—the 96-yard run by 49ers' Garrison Hearst, or the amazing call.

"He throws off bodies like clothes at a marathon."

There was hardly a better description of a football field's-worth of sheer domination.

10. LeBron James vs. Detroit Pistons

11 of 20

He may have made a name for himself as a perennial choker in the playoffs, but there is evidence to the contrary.

On May 31st of 2007, LeBron James scored 25 consecutive points from the 2:16 mark of fourth quarter to the end of the double-overtime game.

This game 5 was proof positive that King James can go one-on-five when he is feeling it.

9. Anthony Petis' Ninja Kick

12 of 20

Anthony Petis dips into his inner Matrix and pulls off a stunner of a move.

Note to Ben Henderson. If a man starts running on a chain-linked fence—run. Because something fairly awful is headed your way.

8. Vince Carter Dunks on 7-Footer

13 of 20

There are points in every Vince Carter game where he reminds you how amazing he can be. I like to refer to these moments as when he decides to actually try.

During the 2000 Summer Olympics, Vince Carter decided to just go over French center Frédéric Weis, despite being over 7-feet tall.

Ridiculous.

7. LeGarrette Blount vs. Green Bay Packers

14 of 20

Last November, LeGarrette Blount took the ball 54 yards into the end zone. The Green Bay Packers' defense served as mere speed bumps along the way.

The Packers needed far more men to stop this runaway train.

6. Josh Hamilton Home Run Derby

15 of 20

In 2008, Josh Hamilton went HAM in the greatest moment in Home Run Derby history.

We can all agree that Home Run Derbies and Slam Dunk Contests can be pretty damn dull, and they are never emotionally riveting.

That all changed on one magical night in 2008.

All eyes were on Hamilton as he launched one ball after another deep into the New York night and made the Derby actually memorable.

5. Tracy McGrady 13 Points in 33 Seconds

16 of 20

Tracy McGrady is one athlete that showed flashes of being the best in the game. One of the most brilliant few moments in NBA history happened on December 9th, 2004, when he scored 13 points in the last 35 seconds of a game against the Spurs.

T-Mac hit four consecutive three pointers, and one was a four-point play. He gave hope to every fan who cried, "We just need a few three pointers and we are back in this game."

Yeah, he did that.

4. Reggie Miller

17 of 20

Reggie Miller did no less than hit a three-pointer, steal the ball and hit another one, which then lead to John Starks' brain melting from his head.

The Knicks' guard was just as amazed as all of us and missed ensuing free throws, leading to Miller draining a pair of his own buckets from the charity stripe.

It was all over in a flash, but it's permanently etched in our memories forever.

3. Vince Young vs. USC

18 of 20

The 2006 Rose Bowl was supposed to pit two tough teams together for an epic battle. It really just turned into Vince Young doing whatever he pleased on the USC defense.

In all, he threw for 267 yards and ran for 200, including three touchdowns.

Where did that Vince Young go?

2. Kobe Bryant's 81 Points

19 of 20

The Black Mamba isn't much of a passer, but he is one hell of a scorer.

He proved that a 100-point game is not completely out of the question by lighting up the Toronto Raptors for 81 points back in January of 2006.

It was ridiculous watching this feat live, because I actually thought Kobe Bryant would go for 150 points that night.

These days are gone, but still so enjoyable to relive.

1. Marshawn Lynch vs. New Orleans Saints

20 of 20

Ah yes. There is nothing like the original.

Lynch once explained what Beast Mode was at the Nike rookie football camp in 2007. His best moment would come in the 2011 NFC Wild Card game against the Saints.

He just wouldn't go down.

Anyone can go Beast Mode. I for one happen to do it quite often, only it involves restaurants that serve all-you-can-eat pancakes.
